This is compatible chrome, safari, opera, IE and firefox.
Having used both, I recommend this over ghostery because AdBlock automatically blocks ads which can manually be enabled, whereas ghostery provides a list which manually need to blocked. I find AdBlock slightly more convenient.

Side note: Cannot remember about ghostery, but adblock also blocks youtube ads so videos start instantly.

Can't dispute what your personal preference is, but Ghostery Lite requires only one click to block everything, or up to as many as 5-6 if you choose to customize it. I think you are thinking about the original Ghostery, but even there it wasn't that many steps to block everything. You might give Ghostery Lite another look.

A little bad news folks. Ghostery Lite does not stop the damned pop up wanting me to download Flash Player. Worse yet, even after I run the uninstaller it still comes back the next day. How in the blazes do I get rid of it???

The pop up to update Flash comes from several sources:

1. You have Flash installed and a video starts that triggers the Flash application itself to warn that the version you have is old. You get rid of this by completely uninstalling Flash, removing it from your browsers and then rebooting to a clean no-Flash system.

2. Bad dudes want to get you to go to their site to get what you think is Flash but which is actually some form of Malware. Ghostery should block those, if you have it turned on and blocking all the nasties. Did you do the "turn on" step for Ghostery? (Click on the ghost icon in Safari, or whatever browser you use, and click either Default or Custom)

3. Sometimes a fragment of Flash gets left behind if the installation was not done correctly. You may need to manually check for anything from Adobe and eliminate it. You can use EasyFind or Find Any File to search for all things Adobe and get rid of it. (That assumes you don't have any other Adobe products installed. If you do, you'll have to be careful not to eliminate something you actually need for that other product.)

Also, is there one specific website that triggers the popup all the time? Maybe it's embedded there. Not all websites are "good" websites.

Jake,
1. Ghostery Lite doesn't stop it.
2. I never installed Flash Player.
3. I have "default" checked in Ghostery Lite.
4. It pops up when I am. going from one website to another.

Try clicking on the Ghostery icon, then on the three dots "..." and click on Custom, then click on everything.

I would definitely NOT click that "Update" button, ever.

That seems to indicate you are using Chrome as your browser. I don't use Chrome, but I thought it came with Flash included. If that is the case, that would seem to make this a scam popup, but as I said, I don't use Chrome. Maybe somebody who does use it will come along to give you help with Chrome.

Sort of correct Jake, in that Google Chrome uses its own version of flash, not the Adobe one. At least as default.

Have you tried clearing the browser cache for whatever browser you are using?

I would say it sounds like you are going to some phishing sites or maybe getting re-directed.

Maybe just avoid those sites???

Or try another browser like Safari and see if things might improve.
