Hello all. I'm new to all things Mac. I just bought an Apple MacBook A1342 13" MC207LL/A 250GB HDD 2.26GHz 4GB MAC OS EL CAPITAN as sort of a way to get my feet wet.
I'm looking forward to reading different articles on this forum and to learn how to use my "new" MacBook.

Welcome to the forum. Just as a way of helping you, when you have a question, it's good for us to know exactly what Mac you have. You can find the by clicking on the  in the upper left corner, then "About This Mac" and the information will be in the resulting window. Typically, it's in the form of "MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)" or something similar. (That is my Mac, by the way.) I don't know if your model number, the "A1342" covers just one model or not, as Apple has been known to have one number for a lot of models.

One good place to start is to spend some time checking out all your options in the preference panes that are in the System Preferences window and the "?" can be helpful when clicked as it will bring up a Help window with more detailed info and explanations.

It's also where and how you can customize a lot of the Mac to suit your use and needs better and is almost a critical place to use that many users never look at.

Have fun and enjoy your Mac and welcome to the Mac World and mac-forums.
