I just wanted to say thank you to all of you here at this forum. I posted about the new old iMac and received lots of help and encouragement. I wound up wiping the hard drive, mostly because of all the personal information from the former owner. I could not load El Capitan, so I purchased a disk of Mavericks, mostly because of the thread on the forum. So I loaded the disk, and now I have downloaded El Capitan, and it is installing now. (I'm using my PC to post this)
Thank you for being here, posting ideas and work-arounds and how to's, and being kind to novice Mac users.
