How do I use Bookmarks in Safari?
    Hello friends,

I haven't been here for a while, due to health issues.

I'm not getting very far in learning new things on my Mac.

What I would like, is for someone to explain to me in plain English, how I can use Bookmarks in Safari? I have attempted it on my own, several months, and didn't get anywhere. I simply find it more difficult to understand, than the Favourites function in Windows! I'm sorry about this.

    Thank you, Frank.

what exactly do you want to know?

adding a bookmark is easy, while you're on the page you want to keep as a bookmark just go to "Bookmarks" in the Menu Bar and select "Add Bookmark".

Hope you're feeling better. I have health issues and they are a (quite literal) pain :-(

Bookmarks are nothing more than favorites or frequently visited links. Don't overthink it. What you can do to make this manageable is to ensure that you categorize your bookmarks in a way that makes sense to you now and in the future.

Within Safari, click on the Bookmarks link on top and choose Show Bookmarks. This will give you a sidebar on the left with 2 sections (one with an open book icon and the other with glasses). I would ignore the right (reading list) section for now and focus on the left side.

By default, there will be a folder called Favorites which you can use for your absolute favorite sites (Mac-Forums should definitely be in there! ). Now right click in that sidebar and you will get the option to create a New Folder. Do so and name it something generic, "Social Networking" for example and that will house the vices of humanity like Facebook, Twitter, what have you. From there, create a folder for Banking, Fly Fishing, and whatever else you fancy.

Once the folders are created, visit the sites you care about and hover over the URL bar to have a little (+) appear on the left. Click AND hold and then choose the right folder under the Bookmarks section to add the bookmark. You can also hit CMD+d to go through a guided process of placing the site into the right folder.

Now you can jump to any site based on what the folder it is in from the sidebar.

I really can't add much to Ashwin's patient, accurate and helpful way you save Bookmarks, create Folders, Save to Folders and all the rest.

    Two minor additions:

    1. When you save a Bookmark by any of the means outlined by Ashwin, you can alter the title of the bookmark simply by typing over the blue-highlighted wording. For instance, as you are in the UK, suppose you went to Marks and Spencer site and from there to, Men, then casual shirts, then cotton shirts - and you like that page. If you saved it as a Bookmark, it would look like this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/l/me...tton-n-1z13z9u

You can change title of that to "M&S my shirts". This will not alter the URL (shown above) but provide you with a more meaningful description of the site. You could do this for every item of clothing you like - eg "M&S my trousers"; "M&S my socks". You get the point?

When on Amazon and troll through numerous pages to get to your favourite author or a special electrical item, you Bookmark that page but give it a meaningful title so that you can go straight to that page on a future visit.

    2. Download the free app called "SafariSort App" from here: https://www.safarisort.com

This sorts all your Bookmarks alphabetically; usually Folder first (you can change that) and within each Folder all Bookmarks are in alphabetical order; making it so much easier to find a bookmark.

Just a couple of ideas. But it's Ashwin who has set the whole process out for you.
