I am on a 2017 iMac running OS 10.13.8. I can be working on a page and suddenly the page goes to the right in cyberspace somewhere, and can't be recovered. This is frustrating and annoying, very annoying. I can have a half hours work on the page, and zip, there it goes off to the right. Any ideas??

What are you actually working on and what application are you using???

Are you using a single or multiple display monitors???

Patrick, I can be working either on my mail program (ver 11.5 (3445.9.1)) or in Safari ver 11.1.2. I am using a single monitor.

Lisa, your bottom note recommends using OnyX to keep things healthy. I use it, and I also scrapped CleanmyMac. I had terrible problems with it.

Terrible app, loads of problems, good riddance to it. so well done. And +1 for OnyX.

Purely BTW, the latest version of macOS High Sierra is 10.13.6 - unless you've got a special deal from Tim Cook:D

OK, and it looks like you're not alone according to a number of these hits:

I don't use macOS 10.13.8, but I'd have a look at something like Mission Control if it's still used, or whatever is used to initialize "Hot Corners" or whatever they were called.

I never use them either.

I'm suspecting that you're hitting some hot corner the make the windows "disappear". And sorry, I don't know what the command would be to bring them back either.

Over to you Lisa. :Smirk:

Do you have Spaces enabled? Sometimes that happens to me, if I touch my MagicMouse the right way? Try swiping on the mouse, either way, to get the apps back on your screen.

Bob, The next time it happens I'll try swiping the mouse. By swiping I assume that you mean holding it down and dragging it back and forth.

Patrick; I was, in my usual clumsy way, just pointing out that 10.13.8 doesn't exist as stated in post #1. Bit of banter, that was all.:)

Just to add an old note of likely the same problem, have a look here:
http://www.mac-forums.com/macos-operating-system/305597-disappearing-sliding-windows.html

BTW: Something wierd but I don't need it, when checking my Mavericks OS and for "Mission Control" just now, I had to use Spotlight that says it's in my System Preferences and open in its window, but there's no sign of "Mission Control" anywhere in the list, and if I use the search function in the window, oit highlights Keyboard and Mouse System Prefs. Is that really normal? I know "Mission Control" is different, but that seems bizarre.

Sorry to camp onto the OP post. I just thought it weird and maybe they can't see their "Mission Control" pref pane either.

OK Ian, and it may have existed at some point, but not in the public realm perhaps.

No, Swiping, is done across the top (glass) of the Magic Mouse. If you look in System Preferences > Mouse, under More Gestures, you'll see it.

In Safari, a two finger swipe to the right does exactly what you are saying you are seeing. The Magic Mouse swipe section is very sensitive and doesn't take much pressure to sense a "swipe" at all. In fact, I have seen the MM swipe when I have felt nothing in my finger. Is it possible you are allowing more than one finger to rest on the front of the mouse and that the mouse is sensing a two-finger right movement?

EDIT: Oh, and if this is the problem, you recover by clicking on the back button in safari to get back to the swiped-away page.

Try a single finger swipe to the left, across the top of your mouse, to get the page back. This happens to me as well. HTH

As MacInWin said, you can also recover the page by clicking the back arrow.

Don't we still have the three finger drag/swipe that shows all the desktops? Just an idea to see if it shows anything. Although it looks like a solution might have been found. My magic trackpad is very sensitive and I have had things happen I didn't intend just because I was touching without realizing it.

That's just one of the reasons I don't use a Magic Mouse and can't break my "Lazy Finger" habits, but no such problem with my Logitech M705 mouse.

Thank you everyone for all the help. The solution to my problem is both the sensitivity of the mouse, and the guy holding it.
