From Google, I logged into Amazon. Now the page is frozen on Amazon. If I exit Google and open again, I still get the frozen page. I can log onto Amazon with the Amazon icon, but Google is frozen on one of the Amazon pages. Tried shutting it off then on. Google still brings up frozen Amazon page.

You didn't say what version of iOS or what iPad, but try double clicking the Home button, then scrolling to find Google and flick it upwards to fully quit the app (assuming you were using the app, you didn't say). Or if you were in Safari, do the same with Safari. The objective is to fully quit the application and force it to restart.

I have the iPad Air 2. Not sure of the iOS but believed to be up to date. Don't understand flicking the Google app as it does not move if I try to flick it. Problem: I opened the Google app. Searching for luggage. Went to Amazon page searching for luggage, after maybe 30 minutes searching different sites (going in and out of Amazon site) wound back on Amazon. Search thru Amazon luggage then page jumped to luggage strap and stayed on that page no matter what I did. Closed app. Reopened. Still shows luggage strap page. No Google search page. Turned off and on. Same result.
Downloading iOS 11.2.5 to try and fix this problem. Not sure why my iPad did not show this new(?) iOS under the App Store icon.

But you should read this anyway because apps do get stuck. You didn't need an upgrade like that to fix it, but it's good that you did that because that update has security fixes that are important.

And the app store does not show iOS updates. You look for them under Settings/General/Software update.

For what it's worth for such instances with my iPad 2, I keep a bookmark for: "about:blank" (no quotes) and just use it to get rid of whatever seems to be stuck or just plain persistent or seemingly stuck!!!

Works for me.

When you say “google on my iPad”, are you using the google, or chrome app, or the Safari app, and the google web page?

Good point and question Bob and I keep forgetting there are so many alternatives available these days for a user to use.

Bob and Patrick, the article I linked to provides directions to recover from both (or any) application. So it would stop either the Google app or a browser app.

I just open the Google app on my iPad. Guess I'm using Google. On my Mac I use Safari. Have Google as one of my Favorites. FYI, just bought my first smartphone iPhone 8 Plus w/256GB.
