Not sure how this qualifies as a Community Announcement. I moved it to the correct forum (Switcher Hangout).

Note that you can also press the power button (momentarily) and then click Shut Down when the window pops up.

Teejay... Why not just close the lid which will put your MacBook Pro (MBP) to sleep?

Apple's own recommendation is that you sleep the machine if you're only going to be away from it for a relatively short time (less than a couple of days).

For long-term storage (let's say a month), drain the battery to 50 percent and then shut down.
