New iMAC able to receive e-mail, unable to send

So far my "switching" hasn't gone very well. First I discover the iPOD dock I own has a larger Firewire jack than the back of the iMAC and second I can't send out e-mail.

I copied all the Charter Incoming and Out Going settings and I keep getting a message that says

"Cannot send message using server smtp.charter.net"

Help?

Don't know if this is your problem, but when I was setting up my iPad I got the same messages. I hadn't put my password in the outgoing setting but they were in the incoming settings, so I could get mail but not receive it.
