How to copy tile desktop background and make new photo

I have a iMac running OS X EL Capitan version 10.11.15. My desktop background is a tile iPhoto shot. I would like to make a copy of this picture and save it in iPhoto. Is this possible, if so how?

You could take a screen shot: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361

It will be saved as a .png on the desktop.

Then just drag the picture to Photos icon and it adds it to an album. You can drag it to iPhoto and it will work too.

Just as a jokey aside, how did you get hold of version 10.11.15 - the rest of us are stuck at 10.11.6
