I am using a Mac and an Android phone. My music library is in shambles.

Can somebody recommend a good tag editor I can use to get my mp3's back in some semblance of order?

I assume the only way I can do this is to transfer my library to my laptop, edit the tags to get them in the right groupings that I want and then move them back to my phone. I haven't found one that can edit directly on the phone unless I use an app on the phone and that would be too slow.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to these forums malangon, I think you have answered your own question. You will need some work space to do what you propose so syncing your Android phone to the Mac would be a good starting point but all of the Mac's native apps are designed to work with iDevices so.......
You can use Android File Manager https://www.android.com/filetransfer/ to transfer your music to the Mac, step one. Now you need an app to organize your library into Folders, eg genre, artist, songs. For that I would suggest ID3 Editor http://www.pa-software.com/id3editor/ but there are others see; https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tag-editor-free/id984278082?mt=12 on the App Store.
