Just got done snow blowing my driveway. About 26" of dry, fluffy snow, great for blowing. Did two neighbors' as well, and by the time I got back to my drive, another 6" had come down. Waiting now for it to stop for round 2.

Just thought I'd share. :)

Oh, wow! Living in Ohio, I watched it just skirt my area. We haven't seen a flake. I feel for you and all those who are getting this mess dumped on them.

I mentioned at work yesterday that I remember the 1978 blizzard and how I helped with rescue operations etc. The guy I was looking at said he wasn't born until 1980 so obviously he did not remember. Brat.... ;P

I spent two military tours in the great north; one in Quebec, Canada the other at a BMEWS site in northern Greenland. Keep that white stuff up there Jake. :p

Well, I'm not THAT far north. Winchester, VA is at the top of the corner of the state, about 6 miles from the WV border. I think we are so far the highest expected. Given how the storm is moving, PA will probably take that record this time. The good/bad news it it's fluffy. Blows well, but drifting a lot. Ran into a couple of 4' drifts, took multiple passes to clear. Next time out will be the last, I hope. It's about 12" where I had already blown, with some drifting. So far no power problems so that's good. I have a friend who is a lineman and he's been called in for the storm. Be interesting to see when he gets home. Could be days.

No flakes here either, snow flakes anyway, yet. Tonight we might get an inch. Those totals in the Mid-Atlantic states are something!

Well, the final total in Winchester was 33". So far the city hasn't gotten to my street yet, which is surprising because in the past they've been able to clear within a couple of hours. Must be slammed everywhere. Off to blow the drifts off my driveway.

I've seen a few stories about this blizzard, primarily because I wanted to see if it would hit Toronto (it didn't and in fact, with a high of 8° today, it's going to be mild enough today that it might melt off some of the few remaining small patches of snow on the ground).

I have seen my fair share of major snowfalls though so I get how terrible it must be (particularly when it's snowing so hard that there's more snow on the driveway as you're finishing). The worst though is when the plough comes by and kicks up all the ice and sand laden chunks and throws them on your driveway. Nothing is worse than the really heavy gross stuff just as your finishing.

Just finished snow blowing, Pt 2. Did my driveway and three neighbors' drives, too. Now we wait for the snow plow to come through and do the streets. The plow will, of course, build a wall of snow at each driveway, but that's ok, we'll just get rid of that with the blower, too, and then we'll be FREE! The 33" was a record for the city. We normally get snow in 10-12" increments, so 33" in one go is a bit of a strain on the utilities department to remove. Ah, well, it's a small price to live in the Valley!

Swap you for a couple of days (only) Jake. Over the old 100ºF again and with 98% humidity at 7.30am another stinker.

No thanks, Harry! My wife and I both intensely dislike hot weather. I'll take cold and snow over hot/humid any day! Right now it's just about freezing at the peak of the day, the sun is our so we have good melting on the cleared driveways. Still need to be plowed out, but one truck did come by and clear a one-car-wide swath so we can at least get out if needed.

When it gets hot, we hide inside and pay a huge electric bill to run the air conditioning!

Naw, Harry, you know it's hot outside when your shoes sink into the road tar! Hey, that humidity goes with living near the beautiful ocean. :p

What a contrast Harry. Got about 25" of Snow here. Hard to imagine 100°F & 98% humidity weather at the moment. That really does sound like a "stinker"!!!

My better half and I tag-team on that task. One knocks down the pile left by the plow, the other blows it on to the "drifts" piled up by the sides of the driveway. We learned that trick from the couple across the street.
