wireless repeater , one SSID

I have a linksys router and a linksys range expander. I configured them with the CD and it said the configuration was a success, yet I see only one SSID, the repeater SSID is gone now. My signal level SEEMS better but I am not sure, typically do you keep your router SSID and the expand IS that SSID?
