is it common for the recaptcha box to always pop up when posting, starting a thread or searching. i did a search for recaptcha but nothing came up.

This is an anti-spam measure that is imposed on relatively new members with low post counts amongst other criteria. In time, it should go away.

How long does it take? It kind of ruins the flow of using the forum. A few times i have incorrectly entered the text and ended up just not bothering to post.
