dmg file crashes the OS

I'm totally stumped by the behavior of a dmg file.
Whenever I clik on it to install the app ("Amazing Slow Downer", an app for musicians) the mac crashes and reboots.

The same thing happens if I use another (pristine) user account.

In all the years I've worked with a mac I've never seen anything like that.

Any ideas?

Just minutes after I posted this, the developper got back to me. The file on their download section was optimized for the APFS file system, which my mac doesn't use.
He has since uploaded a modified version, and it works.
