Duplicate sent emails in Sent Mail Box Mac Mail

How come suddenly I am getting two copies of sent emails in my IMAP Sent Mailbox for my Earthlink.net account I have used for years.

In Mac Mail Preferences I have "Sent Store Messages on Server" checked. This is annoying because on the Earthlink IMAP server I am storing two copies of the same email.

iMac El Capitan

Checked on the Web and can find any good information about this.

Ideas?

Is there a script for this?

For whatever reason I have lots of duplicate emails in my sent mailboxes.

I tried this script and it did not work.

How are you connecting to your mail server? IMAP? POP?

I am having same issue with Thunderbird using imap.
