is this the best free app for managing little things on a MAc? ie unwanted notifications,etc..

Provide a link to the app. Notifications on the Mac are managed under Notifications in Sys Preferences. Turn off or on what you want and don't want there.

I think the Parallels Toolbox manages what happens in the virtual systems that Parallels manages. You don't generally need any third party apps to manage things like notifications, they can mostly be managed, as Ashwin said, in System Preferences or in the Preferences for each Application.

Although, Notifications, can usually be managed within your browser(s) of choice, as well as in System Preferences.
