I don't know if this is at all related to the avatar the admin chscag uses, but I thought it looked similar so I'm just posting it here as I thought it was a great shot that I came across and it almost looks like a painting and maybe chscag and others might like it.

It came from https://flightaware.com/photos/view...b9e4166218efa/staffpicksweek/sort/date/page/1

I'm sorry but I don't know what particular type or model it is or if it's even related to what chscag flew as shown in his avatar.

Anyway, I thought it was a pretty neat shot and it's too bad it doesn't have an audio file to go with it that those engines could produce. Merlins maybe??? Lovely sound regardless!!!

Opps... not a Merlin as they were not radial engines.
And I believe the plane might be a B-25 Mitchell bomber. Maybe a B-25C model???

EDIT:
Here's a good sound video of those lovely sounding engines:

Charlie will confirm it is a B25 Mitchell being flown as a WW2 Commemorative aircraft. Here is a pic on the ground:-

Thanks for that link harry and good sleuthing.

I'd say she's still quite actively flying as that article was from AUG 7, 2012 and usually the photos posted to FlightAware are usually quite recent.

Did you catch the sound audio link I posted above just after you last posted here???

Thanks Patrick. That definitely is a B-25 Mitchell bomber, the same ones that bombed Tokyo re "The Doolittle Raid" in 1942. They were flown off an aircraft carrier. The B-26D built by Douglas in my photo has different engines. (Allison R-2800).

My father was an RAAF bomber pilot before WW2 started and flew a similar aircraft, the Lockheed Hudson, from 13 Squadron RAAF out of Darwin and was shot down by Zeros escorting Japanese bombers and crash landed when returning to Darwin after a bombing raid on Japanese shipping off Papua New Guinea. He later flew Bristol Beaufighters and Mosquito aircraft. He remained in the RAAF after the war.

He flew Mitchells in Canada training pilots after his hospitalisation in a USAAF Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, in 1943, after his return to service.

The B-26 shown in that photo was made by Martin whereas the B-26 in my photo was made by Douglas.

Gee, I don't know how you can tell, but I guess the objective was to get as many aircraft built as fast as possible and regardless of who was building them.

And I gather it would be the same Martin company that built the huge Martin Mars, some of which are still semi-active and based at Port Alberni/Sproat lake area about 130 Miles North of where we live. Marvelous planes that they have customized as water bombers Been quite thrilling to see them fly and/or drop their load. Impressive would be an understatement.

Interesting thanks harry. I didn't realize most of those little details.

Interesting that the government even in those days could screw things up and create an inefficient situation and waste time and money.
