hi Ferrarr thanks for the reply.

maybe if I explain my issue a bit more clearly

the mini DVI cable is damaged the other 2 work perfectly and as its an all in one cable can I replace the damaged mini dvi connector with a new one ?

as ive searched everywhere for this all in one cable and can't find it anywhere

I can find the one for the Thunderbolt Display but that don't help me

thanks

On the Cinema Display you have mini displayport, usb and power on the all in one cable. This cable can be replaced and is very easy to do so. The part number for this should be 922-9743. You cannot just replace one connector of the cable.

hi there,

thanks for the reply

I understand the cable is an ALL IN ONE Cable.

my question is can't I just repair the Mini DisplayPort Connector ?

as I can't seem to be able to purchase the All In One Cable here in the UK

thanks

When you try it, you will be the first to do it. Good luck.

Here is what was asked in post #1:

is there anyway I can chop the cable and repair it with another...

There probably is a way...but you would probably need to purchase another 100% working cable to do it. Or find a 2nd all-in-one cable that got chewed by a dog (but the dog didn't destroy the mini-displayport connector part).;)

Additionally...the cable may have a layer of metal foil shielding inside it which may be difficult to duplicate when trying to splice two cables together.

or should I just discard the whole display ?

Focusing on just replacing the mini-displayport part of the cable seems like it would be a more frugal and more cost effective (if it could be done)...the fact is these video cables are much more complex than replacing or splicing the electrical cord on a table lamp...where all there is inside is copper wire. Video cables are more complex.

In post #1 it was mentioned "or should I just discard the whole display?". I would certainly think replacing the all-in-one cable would be MUCH MORE preferable than discarding the whole display.:)

Finally...if you cannot find a place to purchase the all-in-one cable in the UK...then order it from the United States. Lots of places to get it here.:)

thanks guys.

well I can always try and repair the all in one cable and still order it from the USA

so if it works it will be ideal as a temporary solution until the new cable arrives

thanks
