My wife has an old iPhone 5C with IOS 10.3.3, which is the latest it can take.

She uses WhatsApp a lot and people with newer phones use Emojis she hasn't got and she just gets a '?' from them instead.

Is it possible to update the Emojis on her iPhone to what is now available on IOS 12 someway?

Some emojis used on non-Apple phones also may not show up on an iPhone (get the ??) simply due to incompatability. I have an iPhone & wife has an android phone...and a fair amount of the time when I get emojis from her they are displayed as "?" &"??". Even on android phones when a text is sent with an emoji...it gives a warning that all emoji's may not be compatible with all phones. Thus issue is not always related to iOS version.

Just something to consider when trying to solve this.:)

Thanks. I did wonder about that as one of my daughters uses an android phone. Mind you my iPhone is a later model than my wifes and runs IOS 12 and I'm pretty sure I don't suffer from ? replacing emojis.

I'll have to do some testing.

Good deal. Sounds like you both have iPhones...I wasn't 100% sure that was the case from post #1.:)

I thought one was supposed to be able to install other emojis and emoji keyboards and even using some third-party alternatives???

And I guess not many are jailbreaking their iPhones these days, especially just to use some emojis. :Mischievous:

Thanks very much for the links. They were most helpful and appear to hold the solution.
