windows 10 on a 2011 macbook pro

Currently I have High Sierra on a mid 2011 macbook pro and bootcamp with windows 7. My question is will upgrading the windows 7 to windows 10 using "upgrade this pc" not a clean install.. work out all ok since I've read that the 2011 model does not support windows 10....

I don't do Windows and it seems that according to a google websearch Apple doesn't support Windows 10, at least with Boot Camp or something, but hey, Apple ain't the only one in town and a quick google websearch sure shows some alternative ways, such as:

PS: Make sure you have a current working backupBefore doing any Major install. I suggest using CCC from bombich.com.

Officially, the 2011 MacBook Pro does not support Windows 10.

I am linking you to articles confirming this, but also to some some that by unofficial means, this may be achievable.

The risk is yours. You know the official position. A minimum of a Time Machine and Cloned backup such as Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) or SuperDuper! (SD!) is advised if you decide to proceed "unofficially"

Gee, I missed welcoming our new member, so thanks for that Ian. But do you know any legitimate reason as to why Apple does not support Windows 10 on that or similar Macs???

I believe it's to do with drivers for Bootcamp. To be honest, I didn't go into the whyfores and wherefores; just confirmed the official position, gave references to same, and arguable workarounds, Patrick.

Ian is correct. It's because of Boot Camp drivers which are not available for that model to run Windows 10. But let's keep in mind that he could still run Windows 10 in a VM on that model.

OK, but I guess my real question is what's the actual reason that Apple hasn't or can't or just doesn't want to create any "Boot Camp drivers"???

I dare say, I think the answer may just not be very complementary!!!

BTW: OT but somewhat related, isn't it odd how some printer manufacturers have been releasing stand-alone wireless printers that don't even need or use any printer driver software for several years now. Hmmm...??? ;D
