Okay so this is what I see on my iPhone when I go to Mac Forums at the moment. As you can see this is the "Desktop" view but I am unable to change it to the "Mobile" view.
Normally it would default to the mobile view as I have the site saved in Safari but the same problem occurs in all of my mobile browsers. Firefox offers me the option of loading the Desktop view although i am plainly already looking at it. When I click it nothing changes and the option changes to load "Mobile" view, clicking that makes no difference either.
My other issue is that there is no "paperclip" icon on any of my private message reply windows despite clicking Advanced on the reply window. See second image below, meaning that although Nick has been trying to help me starting this new thread was the only way i could send an image.
Forget that, I can only attace one image the "paperclip" icon seems to be locked on the image I have already loaded below. Help!

PS. you can imagine what this looks like on an iPhone7. Unreadable right.
Now when i click Advanced the attachment icon is back and as you can see (now) in the below image it's missing.

I would assume it is something to do with the site software, nothing on your end.

Hmm, I do seem to remember this happening once before but I don't remember a solution so it was most likely fixed without me doing anything. Right at the moment I'm scrolling this page across the screen as I type so I can see what I'm typing. I hope it gets fixed soon.

I do not attempt to access our forums with my iPhone 7+ as the screen is too small for me. However, on my 10.5" iPad Pro, the site looks and works the same as if I'm on my 27" iMac.

This is an iPhone 7 not a 7+ so you can image how small it is for me.

I write most of my replies to email notifications on my iPhone and read new posts delivered as well. Without a functional mobile view I would be confined to only reading replies on a laptop.

I certainly understand Rod. Many folks do everything on an iPhone without ever using a computer. With large iPhones as the XsMax, or the latest Samsung Galaxy models, it's possible to do many things on a mobile phone that at one time could only be done on a computer.

That’s because the “mobile” version is no longer an option.

Even when it was available, it was difficult to use. :) You probably remember the Mac-Forums app that was published by iNET? Even that which was designed specifically for Mac-Forums was hard to use. The small screen of most iPhones even when used in landscape mode are hard to navigate. Not withstanding the small keyboard. Sign of age I guess, since most kids have no problem posting on Twitter and Facebook from their phones. :)

No, I'm not thinking about the Mac-Forums iOS app, as I only used it on my iPad 2. I would never try to use any forum on a phone, unless I was stuck somewhere, and I really really needed to find an answer quickly, AND I was unable to find it in a generic web search. So, it wasn't me.

You misunderstood my reply. I'm stating that both the mobile view and the old iNET app were difficult to use on an iPhone. Accessing the forums with an iPad is no problem.

I now realise when this sudden change occured. It was immediately after the iOS 12.0.1 update. For a long time I thought that my browser was displaying the mobile view of the site but I now realise that Airmail (my email client) was opening links in the Mac Forums app which apparently has just died. I disagree that it was unusable. On the iPhone it displayed the full width of the page you were typing into. The current display uses the same size font but displays an enlarged version of the desktop site to accommodate the larger text. This means you need to move the page from side to side as you type to see what you have written. If it just tracked the text it would be more workable.
As for Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram even iMore and Tapatalk they all use mobile versions so of course they work on a mobile device.
I am writing this in a doctor's waiting room while my wife sees her GP and I mourn the loss of what was an easy and accessible means of staying in touch with these forums.

Hello Rod. Thanks a million for the additional info!!:) Are you saying that the changes you happened after the iOS 12.0.1 update?

I searched & searched the forum software...and couldn't find anything. And I logged onto the site with both my iPad & iPhone via Safari...all looked fine. Neither of my mobile devices are running iOS 12.

Thanks,

Nick

What do you mean when you say fine? ie what does the site look like when you open it on your iPhone? Is the same as this?

The previous image I sent from my iPhone is what happens when I try to write in a reply or post dialogue box. As you can see it expands to the point that I can only see about a third of the box at a time.
