Regarding a 3-week old MacBook Pro with new task bar. The native Mac Mail client often, but not always, sends mail prematurely, while I am composing.

This is a very bad bug and makes the product unusable.

Details: I will be typing in compose mode. The compose window closes for no reason and the message moves to the outbox and shortly after, gets sent.

As a workaround, I have taken all accounts offline for safety while I am composing. Even then, the compose window closes and the message moves to outbox, but at least I can rescue it and continue editing.

I rebuilt my profile, re-created my mail accounts and it still happens.

Welcome to our forums.

I must admit I have never heard of the Apple Mail program acting on its own and sending mail while the mail is being composed. What other programs do you have running at the time?

@Mick

When your email message gets sent prematurely, does it go to the intended recipient?

Or does it go to your server or to an iDevice or other phone linked to your account? (esp Blackberry).

If you compose your message without first putting in an addressee, does it happen?

Reasons for the questions is that, admittedly in the past, this behaviour has been reported and was traced to Blackberry phones or others linked to your account. Usually the message was prematurely sent to the phone rather than the intended recipient.

Others reported that if they went into Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox behaviours and unchecked the box "store draft messages on the server", the problem went away.

Obviously, you'd like links to citations discussing these points and that is what I'm checking now - my memory is not what it was.

I shall post my findings ASAP.

Here are some links, but although they touch on the problem, they're not exactly what I was looking for. I shall keep searching because I know this problem has been discussed somewhere before.

Nonetheless, a good starter, as I indicated above, would be to go into Mail preferences and uncheck the box.

Sorry for being so dilatory.
