File locked on external hard drive

I copied a file over to my iMac via external hard drive from my laptop. But it's not opening for me -- a little red 'stop' sign is next to it and says cannot be opened. I am the admin on all of these. What gives?

Could the file have come from a different user account? Even if you are the admin on all accounts files may display this error if they were created in one account and you attempt to move them to another account.

Help! Access denied to locked folder

I am trying to open a folder I copied over from my own hard drive to my own iMac. There's a little red cross on it that says access denied everytime I try to open. I unlocked it in "Get Info," but still no dice. Please help!

I think you definitely have some deep-seated permissions issues
