Good day to all
Being thinking of putting my MasterCard into my iPhone wallet. what do People in the UK think of the idea security fraud etc.

Not from the UK, but I have all of my cards in iPhone Wallet and from a security perspective it's better since the phone and the POS device exchange a token that is related to your card but not your card number specifically. It's akin to the chip in credit cards these days.

Hi David.

I have my cards in Wallet. Secure. Proof of purchase immediate**. Acts like a contactless Credit Card, therefore limited to £30 per transaction. No problems.

** The immediate proof of purchase came in very handy recently. My wife and I went to a local store, bought groceries, whatever. Went to Self Checkout. Paid with Wallet. At that very moment the machine crashed, so it could not spit out a paper receipt.

The staff could not get the machine to work. As there was no paper receipt, there was, in their eyes, no proof that I had paid. Choices offered to us were (a) rescan the goods and pay again. Bring bank statement to prove a double purchase. Get refund. (b) Leave the goods, and return with bank statement and get refund.

With a contactless card, we would have had no other option. Showed them the receipt in Wallet on the iPhone. Case closed!!

In fairness, that is very unlikely to happen often, but the instant proof of purchase is useful. It names the vendor, the amount and the time/date.

PS This proof of purchase could be useful in buses, trains, trams, underground etc, if ever challenged

If I decide to enter my card detail into wallet, I walk into a coffee shop what steps do I use the iPhone to pay?.Would you say the bank and apple method are secure enough to have a master card with a limit of £1000 I don't have that amount of course i.m just a retired mechanical engineer.

Okay. You go to the pay terminal. I don't know which iPhone you have, but in any case to be on the safe side, switch on your iPhone then double click the Right Side button (usually the power on). This will activate your Wallet. Then hold the iPhone close to the terminal. It will Ping and a Tick appears acknowledging it has been accepted.

It's dead easy, but if you Google Wallet and your iPhone type, it will tell you how to add cards and use them.

If you want advice on adding cards - in fact using Wallet at all, post back. I'll do my best.

And, yes, it is secure. More so than a card in your pocket which could get lost or stolen.

All I need next is to go into a coffee shop to see if I have done it correctly.

You're very welcome, David.

Good luck in the coffee shop. I don't expect any problem. And don't be put off if, after switching on the iPhone and double-clicking the Right side button, the phone asks you to verify your identity again by passcode, fingerprint or facial recognition.

Additional security, that's all. And hold the iPhone close to the terminal.

One more thing: If you put multiple cards in the Wallet, you will see the current card when you do the double-click. If that is the card you want to use, you are good to go. If you want to change cards, you will see all of the cards you have entered at the bottom of the screen. Tap the one you want to use and it will show in the screen. Now hold the phone close to the terminal and that card will be used to pay.
