I have been getting more pop ups recently and wonder if it would be a good idea to download ad blockers from App Store found 12Blocker and Magic Lasso Adblock...both free and good ratings
any comments?

Which browser are you using? I use uBlock Origin and Ghostery with Chrome and never have issues with pop-up.

I just changed to the Brave browser a short while ago.
This browser has ad blocking built in...and also blocks tracking which I think is more important than just blocking ads.

thanks ashwin, I'm running Sierra but am upgrading too Mojave soon. usually use safari/google but do have Firefox and chrome on my Mac.

I used to have Ublock and ghostery but I think when I upgraded from Yosemite to Sierra it said ghostery not compatible.
currently I don't think I have any at all. how do I check?

where does one get Ublock Origin? not in App Store.
ghostery lite in App Store..
does it matter if you have more than one of these blocking apps/extensions?

thanks KRS...I shall look into this.

I'm a bit of an advocate for Brave browser at the moment. It is very much like Chrome, can access all of Google Chrome's extensions and you do not need to opt into its Rewards scheme if you don't want to. Brave will stop ALL ADS and TRACKERS. Without the need for third party blockers or filters. I'm currently running it on all my devices, it's fast and compatible across platforms.

Harry, this did not work for me either, but i now realise it was because I had not completely uninstalled it the last time I tried it about a year ago. I think had I used Find Any File (or the new FAF2) to root out it's remainders i would have got more options to sync bookmarks, history, favourites etc. As it was I exported my bookmarks from Firefox as a HTML and then imported that. I got all my bookmarks including the menu bar ones doing that and passwords, well I'm using Enpass so I just add them as required since the Enpass extension is available from the Google Chrome Extension Library.

What browser are you coming from?
Transferring bookmarks and other saved information from FireFox worked just fine for me - but I decided to get rid of all Brave browser remnants beforehand and that seems to be an important step as Rod just pointed out.
Actually makes sense since one would normally download the app and then transfer - the fact that I had played with the app a bit 6 months ago is probably not typical.
And if a direct transfer from the browser you are using now is not one of the Brave options, you need to go the "export to html" route that I mentioned in the last thread when you raised that issue and Rod just mentioned that option again.

Harry, Brave didn't want to import bookmarks from Safari in the various beta versions but the current, 1.0, did that flawlessly.

I had no problems taking my bookmarks from safari into brave. I've been using safari which is supposed to be one of the better ones for Macs.
i have played with chrome and FF so I will test out brave and do some comparisons!

followup browser ad blockers.......so if im using brave, i don't need ad blockers.... but if using chrome or FF i can use uBlock and ghostery. is there an icon showing in top bar indicating they are active as was the cast way back when safari supported these. safari doesnt support these two now.
am i correct!

hmmm just adding more info...I was in brave looking at my bookmarks and all looked correct but at bottom I saw an icon saying..imported from safari..... listing folders not included with all the rest at top of list.
I know a long time ago I did install Brave but did not use it and don't remember if it was still in apps folder when I installed Brave again.

does this mean that I may have remnants of it from previous file and that I should use FAF2 to get rid of them and begin again.
should I uninstall brave and reinstall to start fresh?
I recently installed AppCleaner which is supposed to rid system of remnant files when deleting apps.

I wonder if all of us who are trying/using Brave could add their experiences with Brave, positive and negative, in a single thread to make folling that a bit easier.
I would suggest this one where comments about Brave have already been added:

It's also the top hit that comes up when one searches for "Brave" on the forum

I have a folder in Brave bookmarks which says, Imported from Firefox. It's not a problem. Yes there may be some duplication but it does no harm nor does it take up much space. I could just delete it but there doesn't seem to be any point at the moment. If I did the worst that could happen would be the loss of a few old bookmarks easily found from my other browsers or by doing a search online.
