virus warning

I just received a warning that my Mac has a virus. I did not click on anything suggested but took pic. see image.
is this something I need to worry about. I do not have any virus checker on my Mac. only I use malware bytes regularly.

It's BS!!!

Just to be safe, Close any such windows if any are left open, ShutDown your Mac, Wait 30-40 seconds, StartUp your Mac, Run your malware bytes and Carry-on.

That should purge any such pop-ups.

I don't know why these scammers are not a bit more subtle - this message screams SCAM loud and clear.

PS: I always love the calls I get from "Microsoft Support" telling me that they have detected a serious problem on my PC and I need to give them access to fix it immediately or it will be permanently damaged.
Last time that happened I went along with it....
But I couldn't find the Windows keys on my keyboard, couldn't find the icon on the monitor they wanted me to click on.
After about 10 minutes back and forth, it seems someone more knowledgable got involved at the other end and started cursing at me for wasting their time, LOL

Yes, definitely a bunch of BS. I get similar ones from some other sites. I usually just quit my browser, and re-launch it. All is then well.

Also, NEVER, NEVER reply to anything in such BS. Similar advice, of course, is always given for spam EMails: never click on any attachments in such EMails.

Very good advice. And while Malwarebytes is an excellent (free) program, I also have ClamXAv, and I run it about once every 2 or 3 weeks on each of my Macs, just to make sure I have no viruses, adware, malware, etc. on either machine.

@krs My mother has been getting some of these calls off and on for a while now. She doesn't even have an internet-connected computer in the house. Lately, she has been setting the phone aside to see how long they stay on the line before they realize there's no one there.

Excellent! I used to get such calls quite often, but usually I just hung up. Glad someone played along with them, and obviously made them frustrated.

So, so true! It's so (sadly) similar to so many other scams, like ones that scam people out of the Social Security income, or especially during the first 4 months of the year, when Federal Income Tax is due. It almost breaks my heart when I read about such horror stories.

Definitely! And of course the "overall" obvious error: I have Macs, so how could such BS apply to my situation?

Again, though, what krs did in terms of pulling them along is priceless. If I get one of those calls again (it's been a while), I am going to try that also, just to get those folks pissed off.

My record so far was 37 minutes acting dumb, not hard, while I was fiddling with my iMac and cleaning up some stuff. Man, his swearing at the end when I finally told him I had a Mac and couldn't find the keys they wanted me to press, it was so foul it would have made an army sergeant blush, even if it was half in broken-English and half in Asian, well I think it was Asian!!! ;-)

LOL!!! And +1000! I will have to definitely try that, to see what happens. And I should be able to tell if the person on the phone is Asian, as my wife is Korean. Also, I have been around a number of Asians for most of my life, so I "should" be able to tell.

I think we've run the course on this topic.

To re-iterate: There are no viruses for the Mac and these types of popups are just scareware which will scam you out of money. Do not click, do not call, follow the other good advice given in the posts above.

I posted a concern about having a virus on my Mac...just to make sure.
all comments were valid and confirmed my believe in that one does not need anti virus program on MACs.
