Patrick, that is puzzling. I went to apple.com, clicked on "Support" and then in the search box typed "format" and before I could even finish that, the article I linked showed up at the top of the list. I'll try the Canadian site later on today and see if that makes any difference. I cannot think of why that should be, or why Apple would have two different support documents for the same topic in the (relatively) same language.

That worked for me also. And in visiting the site apple.com/ca/ (the Canadian one), typing "format" in the search box does bring up that link. Actually, it brings up two links:

Apple - Support - Search

Apple - Support - Search

The first does contain more links for documents relating to Erasing and Formatting disks, while the second one has links related to iTunes.

I'm being completely neutral here; but I may have an explanation for the differences experienced by Jake & Patrick.

On the UK site, when I type "format" in the search box and hit return, then I get Patrick's result with over 2000 suggestions that, superficially, have only a tangential relationship to "format".

But if I type" format" and wait a second, Apple's suggested option is "Format & Partition Disk". Click on that and the top option is exactly what Jake got.

So you are both right and we still have a happy family:);D

Patrick, that is puzzling.

I agree, and actually i'm quite suprised in the differences.

This is what I get using your link and method:

Sure NOT what I would expect for decent search results!!!

@Patrick,

If you repeat what you did; when you enter the final "t" of "format", does it not come up underneath the Search box with a suggestion - "Format and Partition Disk"? Clicking on that takes you to a list at the top of which is Jake's article.

@honestone33
Actually, it brings up two links:

Try restricting your search to using the single word "Format" in yoour search box as Jake was suggesting.

Ian, I can only get the "Format and Partition Disk" suggestion if I click the ? at the Appl I have a probleme site. I get nothing at all suggested if I use the "Support" option and just enter the word "Format". And the results I got from doing that are pretty pathetic as you can see with the screenshot I attached.

Maybe I might try changing my keyboard and language to US instead of Canada and see if that makes a difference, but I would really doubt it.

To be perfectly clear, at the apple.com site, don't search the entire Apple site, but first go to Support, then search from there. Here is a screen cap of what I am pointing to: 2019-09-29 06.49.02 pm.png And as soon as I start typing, it looks like this: ssp_temp_capture copy.png

That is exactly what I get. And like you stated above, when I start typing "Format" in the Search box, by the time I type "Form", it brings up the link you also earlier mentioned.

When I go to apple.com/ca/, and click on Support, I get the exact same screen above. When I type "Form" in the search box, I again get that same first link you mentioned before, "format and partition disk", but I also get another one entitled "format itunes screen on pc".

OK, here is the screen shot of that situation on the Canadian site:

Sorry, I think I was editing to add the second picture when honestone33 was crafting his post which is why they seem to be repeating. Bottom line, the Support screen yields the link I posted.

As I mentioned above, I get the two links just fine. I am also using a US keyboard.

Sorry about that! Could you visit apple.com/ca/ and see if you get the same as me?

Thanks guys for all your trouble and help, and things seems to be working better here now, probably because and now full of cookies and the search suspects what I might be looking for I think.

With all the side tracks, did ferrarr actually get an accurate answer to his question???

Sure a lot of variables to be aware of these days.

I think we resolved the Mackeeper question with our first response, and I'm not going to read the remaining 3 pages to see if it was related, but closing this down. Any other unrelated discussion can be started in a new thread if need be.
