This message from:

System Warning!

opened up as soon as I tried to log into the Forum.

It says:
"IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

We have detected a potential trojan virus (e.tre456_worm_osx) on your Mac.

Press OK to begin the repair process."

Is this genuine or a scam. If so has the Forum been hacked?

After you do what the thread Jake linked to, you should grab MalwareBytes and run on that your system. You should also be running some combination of Ghoestry or uBlock Origin to prevent this sort of thing in the future.

Hi all, I just received this threat notification today. I was live streaming some content from a British Sports site. My VPN had been dropping out and I thought I'd try without and boom. Almost immediately received the "Immediate Action Required Notification below.
Naturally being the suspicious type I am I simply quit my browser, went offline, reopened my browser and cleared everything then ran Malwarebytes which found 6 Malicious Threats which I quarantined, then deleted.
I then ran Disk Utility First Aid.
I have to say it's a very genuine looking warning. Were it not for my history with these types of things and my suspicious nature I would have clicked the link.

It does seem to say something for the value of a good VPN though.
P.S. as you can see this occurred on FireFox (Quantum) browser.

I would expect that the URL that's showing in that screenshot is spoofed and not a real valid address.

I would also suspect the browser search engine used picked up and provided the link to MacCleaner.
