I have a home iMac that I originally entered a password for security but turned it off since it's at my house and I'm the only one living there. I have fogotten the password and didn't write it down. Somehow the password login has turned back on. Is there some way to reset the password?

Is there some way to reset the password?

Yes, there is.

First off, you can use your Apple ID to do this, but failing that you will have to do something else.

The first Link from Apple reminds you how to Reset using your Apple ID: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202860

This second Link gives precise details of how to change that Password if the above has not been set up to allow it.

This method works, is reliable and easy to follow - BUT, do note that changing your PW this way will mean that Keychain is no longer available to you as it is linked to your original PW. You will need to create a new Keychain.

Following Harry's post (we were typing at the same time), I have assumed that you meant your Log In PW, AKA your Admin PW.

Well, what solved that machine? Maybe the same solution for the new machine?
