If I am using a wireless headset, which I connect to my MacBook Pro by WiFi, how secure is that? Could someone else connect to my headset at the same time and listen in? Does it depend on the headset? On the settings on the MBP?

Thanks. :)

Read through this. It's a bit old but still current in that wireless headsets have really not changed in that privacy when using them is still a concern.

Most wireless headsets use Bluetooth and no others can't randomly connect to it and listen in.

Now, how many of you understand the content of that article and are able to devise the means to actually employ the vulnerability to hack into the Bluetooth connection? And also note that the issue was addressed by most of the vendors who were deemed to have this issue.

It takes a significant amount of technical knowledge to be able to exploit some of these issues and in general I (as a long term developer and engineer) have absolutely worry about this.

I meant Bluetooth, not WiFi. Sorry.

- - - Updated - - -

If I "Pair" my headset with one of my laptops, I cannot use it with another until I un-Pair. At least, this is my experience. Doesn't mean I can't be "hacked."

So, the consensus? Bluetooth is not secure? Or it is?

Thanks, all.

The number of places you can pair your headset with is not just a matter of what it supports. My Sennheiser BT headphones is paired to my laptop and iPod Nano. I could pair it with my iPhone as well. When I turn on the headphones it automatically connects to all the paired devices, so the laptop and iPod Nano and depending on which one I want to use, I disconnect the other one.

In your day to day, you will not be hacked and have nothing to worry about.

But software is not invulnerable. Unlike what you see on TV and movies, hacking doesn't happen by randomly bashing on the keyboard. :)
