It's been all over the news today. I'm not a fan of Facebook and the only reason our forums have a closed group on there is because we were facing a shutdown. But thanks to the great work by Nick, we are no longer worrying about that. I suppose we could close the group although I'm not sure there has been much traffic on there lately.

They don’t have my phone number because that was never a requirement but they do have my primary email because when I set it up in 2006 security was not the issue it is today.

What I haven't worked out yet is this: FB never had my mobile number, but I set up 2FA a couple of months ago as further security and the 6-digit code goes to my Mobile now. So do I assume that the Mobile number is/could be breached?

I never got logged out. does that mean my account was not affected? not sure. I use an old email I don't care about. never give my phone number even though FB asks for a phone number all the time. certainly never give FB credit card information. never. no way.

2FA used to mean Two Factor Authentication, but that's so yesteryear...

For Facebook, and let's be honest for all other social networks the 2FA means Two Factor Advertisement. Giving them a cell number provides advertisers positive identification for customizing their ads to you and your location.

Unfortunately, there are other ways to getting to know your cell number, both on and offline databases that can be purchased from data brokers. Or just use Facebook's "shadow contact" API...
