As far as I can understand it BlueBorne is a transmittance vulnerability. That is it opens the door to attack by malware developers. So in itself it is not necessarily harmful because your device may not be susceptible to the malware in question but you could unwittingly become a vector spreading the vulnerability to others who are. The good news is that it apparently cannot access iOS 11. So that maybe one good reason to upgrade. The article below from ABC News Australia explains it pretty well.
