SWMBO saw this earlier tonight on the web. So sad to hear. :sd

I've been a fan since I first heard Tom Sawyer. I know they did other stuff before then but that was the first thing I heard where I immediately knew the band name. I saw them in Lubbock, Texas during the Roll the Bones tour. I'd still have the shirt from that show but a neighbor's dog got hold of it. :sd

Their Moving Pictures album was the first I heard from Rush. But when I heard 2112, I was hooked. I had most of their albums, except the first two, which I don't remember the names now. Stopped listening after their Signals album, as they went where I wasn't ready for, music wise.

I was able to see them front row for their Moving Pictures tour, that was a great show.

I never got to see them live which is a huge regret.

When I was young and played drums myself in a band we used to cover Trees (badly i hasten to add!!). I also had a mix of the Hemispheres and 2112 album covers embroidered on the back of my denim jacket when I was about 17.

Anyway, found this on YT - it's quite superb:

Every Album after Hemispheres was a new experience and offered something different musically which shunned a lot of critics and even their supporters since the 1980s and they kept plugging along, succeeding in their Industry.
I am still amazed that "clockwork angels" has music and notes they did not create in their 40 years as a group, and consider that recording gone of their best. Neil also wrote 7 books and Ghost Rider is a must for any motorcyclist and Rush enthusiasts.
I don remember him every discussing computers, maybe in 1983 but i can't see him tweeting while at a rest stop in the high plain of Montana.
Besides being a huge influence on my writing, he would never offend or put someone in an awkward situation.

all drummers wanted to be him growing up., I know I did. a huge loss for the drumming/music world. Best drummer ever. I saw RUSH once in 1984.... grace under pressure tour... youtube has lots of great stuff on Neil... I've been watching videos and interviews for the last week.

this is cool, wish I was there. he did not just play the drums as I learned via this video. he did so much more. Also google "Le Studio" the place where many RUSH songs were recorded...
