This is comprehensive, detailed summary of the type of cracking that Internet users are facing, aware of it or not:

In general, Apple fairs a lot better than any other platforms. What a surprise...;):giggle

While I'd been aware most of content, more or less, but I've never heard about the Cliqz browser:

Cliqz - Secure browser with built-in quick search

My initial, short term testings are positive for this browser. It removes a lot more of ads, trackings, etc, than anticipated. Even more than Firefox with all off its plugins.

I may have just found my new browser...

I have tried Cliqz and also the Brave browser, and I keep running into fairly common websites that don't work properly using those browsers.

Seems to be difficult for a browser to block all the tracking without also loosing functionality of some websites.

I haven't run in to any issues in the short time frame. Cliqz works just fine at this and other forums, business sites, etc.

I have the tendency to change a number of configuration settings in the "about:config' page and did the same with Cliqz. Yes, Cliqz is a Firefox based browser.

Tail is also a Firefox based browser also, where the configuration settings are stricter, than I like....

I just tried Cliqz again tonight a bit.
A Canadian Virgin Mobile website doesn't work correctly and cnn brought up the message below.
Not sure if cnn will block ome of their info if I don't whitelist them.

I do not know why you have different experience with Cliqz; here's what I see at CNN site:

12.14.19 CNN.jpg

There are no ads anywhere on the page and I scrolled all the way to the bottom. Please note that Cliqz also have Ghostery and uBlock extensions active, in addition to Cliqz own privacy tools.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing?

You said you had tweaked the confi on Cliqz, maybe that makes a difference - I'm using it out of the box.

But this morning when I went to cnn, I didn't get this pop-up.

I'm a bit leery about browsers or add-on blockers because every once in a while they don't render a website correctly.
I had a problem with Brave (which also blocks trackers etc.) in that it actually gave me the wrong information when I was checking if fiber internet was available at my address.
Trouble there was that I would have never questioned Brave that fiber internet was not available at my address if I didn't already know that is was available with another provider. Sure enought, when I tried FireFox, Chrome and Safari, they all gave the correct result.
So now for anything important, I check with several browsers.

It realy shouldn't be that way - if websites and browers were coded correctly, all websites would render the same way and the only difference with different browsers would be the extra features they offer.
I really like the relatively new 'screen shot' feature of Firefox which no other browser seems to have.

D....mn - just lost my post.

Doesn't this forum autosave?
Or is that a different forum?

Anyway - I'm going to try Cliqz for a day to see how it goes.
Imported whatever I could from Firefox

First thing I can't figure (after trying and even googling) is how to get the Bookmark Bar back I had in Firefox - a set of bookmarks and folders with bookmarks in them across the top of the browser window.
I have to go through a four step exercise right now on Cliqz to get to the same bookmark which I accessed in one step on Firefox in the Bookmark Bar

If I do the same thing - (where I lost my post using Cliqz) on Firefox, I get the warning below so I can recover.

Not sure if that is a warning generated by FireFox or by the forum software (and Cliqz suppresses it)

Also found the autosave in this forum, but it was too late to recover that way.
But other forums I use do not offer 'autosave', so that is not a 'catch-all'

BTW - Cliqz also needs the extra steps to add an image in this forum, same as Firefox and many other browsers I tested.

I don't tweak much, just couple of settings:

  • Change network cache from local drive to memory
  • Disable all "Google" configurations
  • Disable browsers' own telemetry

There are more than Google entries in the "about:config" page, telemetry has even more entries. The browser works just fine after these changes.

In my view, ad/tracker blockers like Ghostery and uBlock Origin are fine. Cliqz actually purchased Ghostery couple of years ego and integrated some of its functionalities in the browsers. My system have 5 - 6 browsers that are used, depending what I am going to access. At times, there might be 3 - 4 different browsers open for different purposes. One size does not fit all...

I don't recall, if I ran in to issues with posting a reply at this forum. Some others, yeah, but not here...

Yes it does, however, it may not show up for several minutes and if you leave the forums and sign back in, the saved input will be gone.

I didn't log out of the forum, but I started to retype a short version of the post that disappeared pretty much immediately - next time I will wait a bit

Yes, I do get notification from this forum, but they all end up in the spam folder, despite white listing the mac-forums.com DNS name.

The reason seems to be that my cloud-based email account provider utilizes blacklist for filtering out spam. The DNS record's IP address is on the blacklist:

mac-forum.jpg

To my knowledge, this forum is hosted by Sucuri on a shared server. Presumably, some other hosted forum/website on the same server, that may no longer exists, ruined the reputation for the IP address of 192.124.249.5. This requires contacting Suomispam Reputation listing, either by Sucuri and/or the hosting account holder, to request removing this IP from the spammers list. It's a process that I've done for some of my own hosted domains with another hosting company.

In the meantime, you can check your spam folder(s)s for notification from this forum.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I don't have a spam folder as such, I asked my ISP to send them through to my inbox - the ones they think is spam (based on their filters) show up with [spam?] in the subject line.

Did you ever get email notification that didn't end up in your spam folder?
Last email notification I received was Dec 10th
