Thanks Patrick. But I wonder how many US residents really appreciate the freedom they enjoy?

Lots of firecracker noise around here last night even though it's illegal to set them off within the city limits. I guess our local police force was too busy to respond to all the calls. Tonight might even be worse. :sd

I don't know Charlie but it makes me wonder when one of the parade float members calls out to the crowd — Happy Birthday America @ 0:13 in the video, well, I guess it is the birth of American independence, do Americans actually treat it as their country's Birthday???:
LIVE: Donald Trump’s military-style 4th of July celebrations in Washington - National | Globalnews.ca

And one really has to wonder about your Presidents idea of a Military Parade with the shots I see here:

But hey, if and when Canada ever celebrates with a military parade celebration, it would consist of some inflatable's on a trailer with some camouflaged crew holding shotguns maybe, followed by some ATVs and some snowmobiles with a live beaver as a mascot, and nowadays probably smoking a joint with our Prime Minister mumbling something in the bushes they stuck on his float.

Oh, the joy of politics...

BTW: Canada just had her Birthday on July 1st. Most Canadians are thought to celebrate by drinking Canadian beer and whisky, and eating beefburgers, steaks and poutine. :Smirk:

Not quite sure what you meant there but that's OK.

Putting aside whether I agree with the type of celebration the president has planned news coverage in the days leading up to today has in some cases been inaccurate at best. More than one commentator has referred to this type of parade through Washington, D. C. as unprecedented. That's not entirely accurate. It might be the first Independence Day parade but it is not the first time such parades have happened in D.C.

BTW Belated Happy Canada Day. Neglected to mention that earlier this week.

Pity the Continental Army press corps didn't have any film in their cameras to record their flyover over Yorktown.

But I'm told they had the cyber-terrorism threat covered. ;)

I was rather surprised that most, if not all and even the weather type webcams in the area were not available or working well before the "July 4 main event" when I tried checking yesterday afternoon which I gather was due to some sort of security issue or concern.

Seemed a bit drastic and overkill to me.

Thanks for the well wishes from our non-USA friends.
It’s only natural for any people to be proud and protective of their heritage, and that is certainly true for us.

I’m not one to politicize the holiday, one way or another. Though I do spend a bit of time reflecting on the history and events that brought us to where we are today, most of my focus is celebrating friends and family, and of course, BBQ . . .

Any occasion that offers the opportunity to feast on grilled meat and sides with my loved ones is a good time
