update!! hope this helps others

Found these instructions on youtube Dec 12.18 but cant find the video now…

Step 1: First of all, find the video which you want to download.
Step 2: Right-click on the video, then select the option Show video URL
Step 3: Copy the video URL from the little box.
OR select copy url option….and go to step 4
Step 4: Now, go to your browser, open a new tab, then paste the video URL in the address bar.
Step 5: Change web or www to mbasic (I found if . is not following mbasic, ur directed to another page asking to upgrade or download app…just go back and enter . where it belongs)
then press Enter on your keyboard to redirect it to the basic mobile version of Facebook.
Step 6: Once there, Click on the video to open it in a new window.
Step 7: While it's playing, right-click on it and select Save Video As...
Step 8: Give it a name, then choose a destination where to save it and press the Save button.

Works like a hot damned!!

Glad you found a solution. I use the savefrom.net extension for FireFox which let's me easily download videos from Facebook, YouTube, etc. But occasionally it doesn't work for Facebook. The procedure I use in that case is:

1. right-click video and select "Show video URL"
2. copy the URL
3. open a private (aka "incognito") browsing window, paste the URL there, and go
4. right-click outside the video and click "view page source"
5. search for the text hd_src and copy the long URL that follows that in parentheses (for standard definition, search for sd_src)
6. paste that long URL into a new tab and go - you can now right-click and download the video

For others reading the thread. I used to have a couple of different Safari extensions installed to do this but have gotten away from running a bunch of extensions. I use a program called ClipGrab for YouTube videos. Haven't personally tried it for Facebook videos but is should work.
