I backed up some files from my old iMac to disc and when I tried to open them I got a message saying that I no programme to open them they were spf files?,I have unachiver but this does not help.Any one with any idea's as to how I can open these files.
    Regards Ray

The obvious question is HOW did you back up the file? SPF files are either a image format or a backup file format for ShadowProtect, a Windows application. If you used a specific app to do the backup, that app should support a restore.

Thanks for your reply Raz0Edge all that I can tell you is that I put a blank cd and clicked on select all from the finder window and export, sorry if this doesn't make sense but I am not very computer literate as yet.

This older iMac, what model was it and what version of the operating system? Finder doesn't have an "export" option. So there must be something else between the "select" and "export" steps.

EDIT: Do you still have access to this older iMac?

No I don't have access to my older iMac it was late 2010 running High Sierra on the disc some of the items are pdf files that trans ferret to my new Mac with no problem but the psfso am at a loss as to what I can do to open them.
Regards Ray files say that I don't have any programmes to open them?

I think you had some program installed that gave you that feature within Finder, since Finder only has the ability to Compress file/directories into a ZIP file. You'll want to figure out what that was since you'll likely have to use that to restore the files.

Try using the Unarchiver program to see if it will open them. I believe the "unarchiver.app" is still a free download from the Mac App Store.

Charlie, I don't think the files are archives. I found this: https://superuser.com/questions/9696...-10-5-yosemite that suggests it's an image transfer file. Also this: https://www.file-extensions.org/spf-file-extension says that Photoshop will open the file.

Thanks Jake, good detective work. Now let's see if the OP has a program that can open those image transfer files. Photoshop would be an expensive way to open those files if he doesn't already have copy.

Not if it works, AND he only uses it for the free trial period.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

Do you still have your old Mac? Does it connect to your home network?
