The obvious question is HOW did you back up the file? SPF files are either a image format or a backup file format for ShadowProtect, a Windows application. If you used a specific app to do the backup, that app should support a restore.

Thanks for your reply Raz0Edge all that I can tell you is that I put a blank cd and clicked on select all from the finder window and export, sorry if this doesn't make sense but I am not very computer literate as yet.

This older iMac, what model was it and what version of the operating system? Finder doesn't have an "export" option. So there must be something else between the "select" and "export" steps.

EDIT: Do you still have access to this older iMac?

I think you had some program installed that gave you that feature within Finder, since Finder only has the ability to Compress file/directories into a ZIP file. You'll want to figure out what that was since you'll likely have to use that to restore the files.

Try using the Unarchiver program to see if it will open them. I believe the "unarchiver.app" is still a free download from the Mac App Store.

Thanks Jake, good detective work. Now let's see if the OP has a program that can open those image transfer files. Photoshop would be an expensive way to open those files if he doesn't already have copy.

Not if it works, AND he only uses it for the free trial period.

Do you still have your old Mac? Does it connect to your home network?

You need to figure out WHAT application did the exporting to begin with. Until you do that you will not be able to open/restore it properly. We are just guessing at what a SPF file could be.

And I'm confused. You said in post #1 that they were spf files, but in post #13 and 14 you called them psf files. Which is it?

Typo is my guess.

Either way my assertion still stands, we need to know what program did the original export. It's hard to extrapolate just from the file extension since they are ambiguous.

Could be a typo, but I did my research on SPF files, which led to the Photoshop opportunity. If they are PSF files, they could be from PhotoStudio by ArcSoft. It's important to know which is the case.

I think the programme Used when downloading to disc was printshop 2 which I don't have the disc for but it will not run on mojave any how.

the app that pointed out the problem some apps using mojave and losing WI FI connection is OSX Daily

So these are image file that you are trying to open? If so, those files have been exported into a Printshop specific format and you will need another version of Printshop (the latest version compatible with your version of the OS) to open it. Traditionally when you are exporting images, you should always choose generic formats like JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF and so on since a multitude of applications can open these files.
