Hmmm...where to start?? Had all consoles from when they first came out. Bought first white 360 when it first came out-RRoD right after the warranty ran out-managed to fix it by reflowing, but crapped out a few months later. Bought first PS3 when it first came out-sold it after being too busy. Bought second 360 Halo edition-sold it QUICKLY after noticing intermitint RRoD. Bought second PS3(V2), and have kept it ever since. In all, I've had plenty of times to compare everything possible, including the HD-DVD I also had since the first 360, between the two consoles. I bought a Wii within that time, but didn't mention it here because no one cares about it. I picked up a 4gb 360 at a garage sale for $110 over the weekend. Couldn't really say no to that price and what it came with(Forza4/CoD-MW3/BO1).
Any online platform will be crap if your internet is crap. Poeple usually make the statement that "it's free so you can't complain," but praise Xbox Live while it still has the same EXACT problems, and you PAY for it. Xbox Live is a scam! You should not need Xbox Live to enable your 360 to use online programs/apps. My slowest internet speeds with both 360/PS3 was 6mbps down/1.5mbps up(which was MANY years ago). Both systems had lag issues. Now I have 50mbps down and 5mbps up, and both systems run well. Never have problems on the PS3, as I usually get host, yet still manage to run into server issues with the 360, especially when playing Halo or Gear of War. If you truly value "quality gaming," step up and pay extra for quality INTERNET SERVICE, instead of the right to play online. XBL matches online players by different parameters that don't include internet connection speeds as a priority. PSN matches players by grouping those with similar speeds together, along with those that can carry other people that might lag(only noticeable to the lagger). This is also why almost all PS3 game have a selectable option for connection settings when searching for game lobbies. On the PSN, if you notice lag, it's because you are lagging behind other players. On the 360, the servers pick up random people, and you notice lag from those random people, regardless of your internet speed(since you can't be host). Obviously there are also other exceptions such as host quitting, server issues, on both consoles.
An update is an update, and a game update is equal on all consoles, with expection to special patches. Having owned all systems, when one system got an update for something, it was also released on the other systems.
Greatly disagree. PS3 has had the same basic layout since launch, and still runs very well, and is very consistent. the 360 has had numurious dashboard upgrades, and every one of them has slowed the system down even more. I guess you don't remember the first blade-style dashboard if you think the new 360 dashboard is simple and enjoyable.
If you truly care about online gaming, you would not own a console. Considering you are paying for service, the 360's "Xbox Live" should be ABSOLUTELY trouble free, yet you can get just as many online issues as with the PS3.
FORZA. The only reason I need a 360.
Just had to point that out.
I have a great internet connection, I won't go as far as saying it's the best, but I've personally never had problems with it other than the router dying. Internet is internet to me, if I can go online without it being slow and sluggish I am a very happy person.
Playstation online is horrible, there is no point being coy - it's horrible. Xbox Live is the best choice for gaming online between the three consoles that generation with my experience. That's the reason Microsoft continues to milk it. XBL does not have the same issues as the PSN. I don't recall having my information taken from XBL. However, it did happen on PSN. I will never forget that, there is no feasible answer to justify that. XBL is the better option for console gaming online in my opinion. Sure it's overpriced, but if you have the money go you! I will join XBL if a friend gets a new game and wants me to join, the $20 for three months works for me, other than that, PC for multiplayer is the way to go. I love my video games, i've never limited myself to just one console.
I will admit that it's silly to have XBL to watch paid subscription apps.
I had to watch the recent Playstation conference on my Xbox, because PSN crashed for just about everyone! I have a video of the creepy slow motion Playstation 4 conference speech and the angry chatroom on PSN, I wouldn't mind uploading it to YouTube. Typical PSN crap, gotta love it
I honestly don't remember the last time I updated an app on my 360, when I did, it was no longer than a few seconds (15 seconds max). Playstation on the other hand feels like it's a daily thing, they're long and annoying; I walk away and come back when it's finish, because it's annoyingly long. I update an app at least 5-7 times a month. Annoying.
The PS3 menu layout is horrible, there is too much too look at. I want to game, not look at a ton of text'd options. With 360 I can slide side to side with nice size picture. I honestly don't care what the layout used to look like on the 360, as long as I can slide over with simplicity without having to second guess where to go. I'm not sure if you've seen the recent screen shots of what the new Playstation menu will look like, but it's BEAUTIFUL! The menus on PS3 are horrible and Sony realizes that now.
I'm not bashing Playstation, I love the system, I just hate their menus, updates and online interruptions. This is my experience with the console, if you don't agree with my opinions that's fine, understandable.
I got Xbox for Alan Wake - AMAZING GAME! I later got into the Gears series; I didn't think it was going to be good, I picked up all three games for $10 used in pristine condition at GameStop. It was surprisingly good.
I got the Playstation 3 for it's amazing deal at the time, 250gb slim with Uncharted 3, Batman AA and Split Second (I only wanted Uncharted 3 and Batman). Other than Journey, I don't think PS3 has any other exclusive game that interests me.
