Hi, I'm Chris from San Francisco.

Welcome aboard Chris and nice to have another West Coaster, but you obviously work into the small hours of the night while this old senior is sound asleep.

Hi Mac Forums,
I'm 70 years of age and I live in the UK. I have owned an iMac and an iPad for about seven years and an iPod for about 10 or 11 years. I enjoy video editing using Adobe Premiere Elements on the iMac but outside of that I'm still not entirely confident when using any of my Apple equipment. In fact I have a particularly troublesome problem with my iPod and iTunes at present which I would like to raise within your forums once I've read through your guidelines and searched your existing threads. I think I used to be a member here when I first got my iMac but I lost my registration details so I've re-registered today and I look forward to joining your community - although I think I may be doing more asking than answering.

Thanks Slydude. I'm looking forward to picking up some pointers from your site.

As I mentioned, my main issue at present is with my iPod Classic. I've started searching your very comprehensive site for relevant material but if I don't find exactly what I'm looking for in the next day or so then I'll attempt to start a new thread and outline the problem.

Meanwhile, thanks again for your welcome. Best wishes to the Forum.

Hi, I'm Knute
Currently living in Cornwall, Ontario, moved here from Montreal, Quebec.
Have been a Mac user since OS 6 (except for the office where we switched from Mac to Windows - what a mistake that was!)
Anyway - lived through the years where Apple almost went belly-up.
Have been a mamber on the Canadian ehMac site for many years, but activity there is fizzling out, so it was suggested I check in here.

Oh, as to being a member here since 2008 - that is correct, I just never had a need to check back in after I registered.

Welcome from me too. It's probably colder where you are than it is here.

-1 at the moment, up from -3 overnight and that's COLD for me! The frost looks pretty in the garden though?

Welcome to be active here Knute and I never knew that was your name, and as you've probably discovered, my suggestion to try mac-forums has been worthwhile for you.

PS: Quite a few other Canadian members here as well, and even some other ehMac.ca members, and lots of good Mac help and advice here and very little political stuff like the other site has become, as you and I have discovered.

Weather is crazy here.
Two days ago it was around -29 at night, right now at 8:00pm it's -1 and by midnight it's supposed to be +5, all degrees C (in Canada)

Used my avatar from the other Mac site.

As to system specs - not sure that would help since I'm looking after all the Macs in my family and issues come up with them at random.

Macs currently in use are:
2017 13" MacBook Air, 2.2 GHz i7, 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD, running OS 10.11.6
Late 2012 MacMini, 2.5 GHz i5, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB drive, running OS 10.11.6
Late 2011 13" MacBook pro, 2.4 GHz i5, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB drive, running OS 10.11.6 (rescued from major coffee spill)
Late 2011 13" MacBook pro, 2.4 GHz i5, 4 GB RAM, 512 GB drive, running OS 10.7.2

-------------
Then I have a bunch of older Macs still that I need to decide what to do with
2 15" MacBook pros early 2008, 3 Mac Minis one of which will probably get connected to my 55-inch screen, an 11" MacBook Air where we found the screen too small, another 13" MacBook pro. Just finally got rid of my 2 old G4's that were running Tiger - these were really great machines, very flexible and expandable, but they were having trouble running mp4 files with their processor.

Hi Taz. Can't speak for everybody, but I'm doing fine, thank you.

And a very warm welcome to our Forums. I hope you will visit often, browse through some of the threads, feel comfortable about asking any question you wish and contribute an answer when you can.

Ian

PS Very useful if you could outline your Apple products & specs under your name. Perhaps choose an avatar as well?

Hello.
My name is Mike. I just bought a refurbished MBP. Lots of experience in computers and operating systems, but new to Mac.
I bought a Lenovo ideated 320 because of the fantastic price, and I needed a new computer. Worst computer mistake I ever made!
It's a problem with Windows 10, linux, FreeBSD, or OpenBSD. So, I bought this laptop and am learning how to use it :)
lol, seems like steep learning curve, but I'm working at it.
I think my first project will be finding extra ram for it.
Any way, that's how I became an owner and user of a Mac :)

Welcome! MacOS in recent years has gotten to be a bit more convoluted than in the past, but I suspect you'll be an old hand in no time.

I think my first project will be finding extra ram for it.

Better make sure the RAM is upgradeable. In most recent Mac laptop models, the memory is soldered fast to the logic board. Upgrading would mean micro-soldering in new chips.

I recommend Crucial.com for memory, or if you want to go with a trusted Mac-specific vendor, try OWC, http://macsales.com

Thanks cwa107!
From what I read on "About This Mac", it says memory is upgradeable and points me to url about what modules to buy :)
Oh, btw, I did forget to mention this is the mid 2012 model.
