New Mac Convert coming into the fold...

Hey all, I'm Mencelus, and I'm a recent convert to Mac (by way of iOS, which I absolutely love). Just checking out the forums here and I hope to be able to make great use of this place as I learn to use my shiny new mac (got a mac mini last week Thursday, so I'm rather fresh off the boat, as it were).

Hello forum,
I'm returning to the Mac side. I have been gone since about 2009.

Ordered the wife a 13" Mac book Air, 8 gig ram and 256 ssd. Ordered myself a 27" iMac with 5K Retina display, i7 processor, 16 gigs ram, 4 gigs of video.

Ordered them both on Saturday 2-28 and Apple says they won't arrive until 3-12 or 3-13. It's going to be a long 2 weeks. I am really looking forward to getting all of my things transferred from our 2 PCs to our 2 new Macs and getting adjusted.

I'm sure I'll have questions once the new machines arrive, so until then.

Welcome Jeff! New here myself, as you see above. Also did a switch from PC to Mac of course (though it sounds like you had Macs before?). Really can't imagine why I didn't do this long ago, it's been an awesome experience so far. Just a better...atmosphere? Or something?

Welcome to Mac-Forums Jeff!:)

Were both of those computers you ordered stock configurations…or did you customize them? If stock configs….I'm surprised you were told 2 weeks for delivery. If they were stock configs…I would not be surprised if you get them sooner. Sometimes Apple "overstates" things…and you get then sooner.:)

On the other hand. If these were custom config's…then that may explain the 2 weeks.

Thanks for the welcomes Mencelus and Nick.

They were both custom configs, although I sure hope they don't take the full 2 weeks.
I bumped the MBa up to 8 gigs and iMac got bumped up to i7 processor, 16 gigs of ram and the 4 gb video card.

Apple usually sends you a shipping notification when stuff ships. Most stuff is made/assembled in Asia/China…and ships FedEx. Stuff can get here in 2 days & less sometimes. So once you get the shipping notification…stuff will arrive at your door pretty fast.:)

I went from Windows to Mac back in 2007, but I found I was still tied strongly to needing Windows for a few things that there was not a Mac equivalent. I switched back to Windows, and now here I am switching back again. I don't think I do anything now that would require me to have Windows. I had fond memories of the experience the first time around, and was hoping it was still the same.
Nice meeting you and will probably see you in other threads from time to time.

Still waiting for my iMac and my MBa, but at least the arrival date to the store has now changed to the 11th. I do hope they strive to under promise and over deliver and they arrive before the 11th.

In the meantime I am figuring out all the software I want to buy, confirming all of my backups so I can copy all of my data to the new machines, organizing music and photos, etc.

Looking forward to diving in head first next week.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I swear I am about to write down the www.mac-forums.com address and my login data in my paper agenda. Indeed, I do not trust all these electronic things that keep surrounding me maliciously while gently seated in my remote office after coming back from the reseller store.

Welcome to all of you.

@Jeff Nice collection of gear there. If your place gets a little crowded with that gear I'd be willing to provided a good home for either of them if it would help. They'd be well cared for and at no cost to you of course. :Mischievous:

Used Mac 20+ years ago in college, but have been on PC's in the corporate world since. Now transitioning back to using Mac in conjunction with PC's, but will have a learning curve. Just purchased the following:

With the following configuration:

• AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5
• Apple Magic Mouse
• Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
