Suitable responses to my friend's anti-Mac diatribe?

Ignorance is bliss...
I can simply see this person, frothing at the mouth as he spews his fictional facts and will never let you say anything in an attempt to show him any factual facts.

Ignore him...O:)

I use iMovie, garage band, iPhoto, mail, and mac osx. I looked at a pc with with the software like what is on the mac and it was actually almost the same price as a MacBook pro. It is nice having all of this right out of the box instead of having to wait on all of the software to install. I used windows from 1995-2010.5 and I got a mac and really love the machine that I have.

I was one of the people who thought that Mac's are overpriced, short on specs, albeit good looking notebook for the pretentious. This was before I actually bought a MacBook Pro to try out extensively. My opinions about the Mac quickly changed, and I realized, I had no idea WTH I was talking about. Quick, simple, and efficient use of OSx and hardware designed to create a top of the line notebook. They are still pricey though...

But you can't beat $29.99 for Lion OS upgrade. As opposed to $109-250 for Windows 7.

I use both but I can surf without fear on the Mac and it generally gets the job done faster with ease.

Personally, I wouldn't give this guy's opinion much credence for the following reasons:

  1. He makes several inaccurate technical assertions about the Mac in paragraph three (the first long one). He is obviously ignorant about OS X.
  2. He refers to Mac users as "idiots" simply because they don't have his level of supposed expertise.
  3. He talks about the importance of evaluating different platforms and making an informed decision in order to meet your needs, but then completely disregards the possibility that many people – the vast majority in fact – don't need the same level of control over software and hardware as he does. Apparently, what he really means is that its important to choose a platform that best suits your needs as long as it is one that meets his needs and he approves of.

His reasons seem to be fueled by emotion and not knowledge. Anyone who had the ability and resources to purchase either a PC or Mac would not be this angry. There is something else, other than he prefers PC.

SN: Being that he is in tech support, anyone with the smallest amount of knowledge about computers and how they work will tell you there are advantages and disadvantages to both. He has named neither, and every disadvantage he named was incorrect, and basically ignorant. His reasons are personal. You'll never win this argument until you find out exactly why he doesn't like mac.

The guy, apparently, is just in his own little world and does not read a single pc magazine either.

Anyone that's read even a single mainstream magazine, most of the myths would have been overthrown years ago. There has been a mass exodus of the majority of pc magazine/web editors and writers from Windows to OS X as their primary OS that began in '05 and by the end of '06 was in full swing.

You can't read PC Magazine, Maximum PC, Computer Shopper, Anandtech or any other mainstream mag for a year without learning there is a large contingent of these folks that earn their living (this includes the folks writing about overclocking / high end desktops that run into the $3-5,000 price range) writing for Windows users that are using a Mac as their primary machine.

Admittedly, most of them are multiple OS users even at home (as am I). Unless you're in lala land or as dense as a cueball, at some point in time you have to begin to wonder why these folks that have access to custom building their own rigs basically with the latest greatest parts of their choice have Macs sitting in their homes.
