Looks like POTUS will be on vacation this year in Chi-town instead of at Arlington. The first time since the previous guy skipped in 2002 to do the honors in Normandy, France. Nonetheless, please hang Old Glory out tomorrow.

VP will go to Arlington. I've got no problem with the substitution. If Obama wants to go home for the weekend, or to Normandy, that's fine with me.

Old Glory flies 24/7 on my front porch, right under the porch light, keeping it copacetic at night.

Mine's out today as well, although I don't keep it there 24/7 in the spring time because I would hate to accidentally fly it in the rain.

But anyway, big thanks to all of those who have served and grateful remembrance to those who gave their lives all over the world to defend our freedom.

I know everyone's intentions are good but, so no offense intended, but...

Memorial Day honors servicemembers who died in service to their country (The United States) or as a result of injuries incurred during battle.
Veterans Day is set aside to thank and honor living veterans who served honorably in the U.S. Military - in wartime or peacetime. Deceased veterans are also remembered.

Know the difference and educate someone at your barbecue today. And quit saying thanks to all who served, and instead thank those who died - wrong day. Today we thank the dead.

Thanks for that reminder XJ. I have seen a number of reports today where that distinction was not made clear.

To the families and friends of those whose sacrifice we remember today I cannot express my gratitude better than President Lincoln did during his Gettysburg Address

". . . that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain . . ."

UNITED STATES CODE
(Display of U.S. flag)

Title 36, Chapter 10 PATRIOTIC CUSTOMS
Sec. 174. Time and occasions for display

The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all weather flag is displayed.

You're right. This distinction is probably particularly important to families who have lost loved ones who were serving our country. God bless them.
