I was going to actually consider this phone until I found out that there is no 4G in SoCal. So not worth it for me. The Sense UI is nice and Froyo is looking good, but I am far too invested in the Apple Eco-System to change until 4G comes along. :)

EVO review after a few days

I've had an EVO for a few days now after borrowing it from a colleague who got it free at the Google I/O developer conference last week.

The battery does not last a day (and does not even come close to it - it gets ready to die by 6pm and that too without any constant usage!). Its a very beautiful phone and I loved the screen on it - it was better than the iPhone, the Droid, the Nexus.. but that was it.

But, considering its battery life, I am not sure I would own it. Its one of those things that are just very pretty but not practical.

It's not practical to have a phone with a screen that big and expect to get a days worth of battery life without a decent sized battery I think the EVO has a 1500MAH battery,My Nexus has a 1400MAH and the iPhone currently is I believe a 1150MAH, A phone like the EVO needs something like a 1800MAH or more.

My one gripe about Android phones is the multitasking can kill your battery fast, I have to constantly keep a task killer program running to close down unused apps.

I beg to differ there are many Android users here and we all seem to see both sides of the aisle. There are ads in Android, It's really nothing new if you have owned a jailbroken iPhone or Android device then your already familiar with these ads, I think Google just bought AdMob for close to a billion dollars,And It's already been approved.

There's one thing way too many people over look when it comes to the short battery life of an Android based phone. The battery ? Yeah... it's user replaceable. So, get yourself a couple of aftermarket third party batteries which exceeds the mAh ratings of the stock battery, and yer' pretty much set there. So what's the problem ?

You kill your iPhone battery on the go and have no means with which to charge it, and it's toast till you recharge.

I have a USB port in my car stereo and it charges my iPhone's battery just fine when I am on the go.

As much as I hate the fixed battery in Apple products it's here to stay, The problem with the iPhone is that your not always in your car or near a charger. That's something I don't miss about owning an iPhone.

I wished iphone 4G/HD packed a high mp camera like the evo but I guess its too late.

(Most smart phones have a camera 8MP+ and unfortunately iphone doesn't)

Not most. In fact, quite the opposite - the first 8MP cameras are just starting to show up.

I think the Incredible was one of the first 8MP, 5MP seems to be the current standard for smart phones.

Doug, I've handled at a lot of smart phones in my professional life and have yet to see an HTC product that wasn't a piece of garbage. Just my opinion. Android OS is great, but it's a shame that the majority of hardware that runs it is HTC. You can say a lot of negative things about Motorola, but at least the Droid is well built and doesn't feel like a cheap Chinese knock-off.

The Droid 2 should be out late this summer.

Believe it. My 8MP Incredible takes pictures that rival my Canon point and shoot. Now, it's not going to replace a DSLR, but a point and shoot, certainly (assuming you can keep the lens clean).

First off let me start off by saying I've had a iPod Touch, the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3Gs And I still gotta a lil love for them. I've also had a Verizon Motorola Droid, Sprint HTC Hero and now I have a Evo. And let me tell you in my opinion, the Evo is AMAZING. It's fast, it's sleek and it's beautiful. The design is also great. Some people posted that HTC builds crap products. I'm not going to say I agree or disagree with that. However, I will say that the Evo has some weight to it and it surely doesn't feel as though it was built poorly.

I liked my Apple products (iphones etc.) but I always seemed to sell them. And the reason I sold them was because I got extremely bored with them. Every iPhone looked the same a black background with icons on it, that's it. With the Evo, if I get tired of the way my screens look I can change it to my liking. If I wanted to have a different layout for every day of the week, I can. It's all about customization. The only and I mean ONLY thing Apple has is the App store and that's it! The Google Marketplace may and may not catch up to the Apple App store but also keep in mind that Apple App store been out for awhile now and therefore they had a big advantage over the competitors. But unlike Palm, Google market Place is on the right track.

In addition, sure the new iphone will be disclosed in the next few days. But what's going to be that much different than all the previous models....the screen, the design, oh the camera or is it the features...multitasking, folders etc. It's all crap! I don't know how true this is but it's been stated over the net that the new iphone will have a 5MP camera, come one Apple. The Evo has a 8MP camera, auto focus and flash.

Like I said before and I live by my theory. Apple needs something to keep it's customers. So what do Apple do, they release these updates that have one feature at a time and everybody feels like it's Christmas or something (including myself when i had a my iphones). But after I came to my sense and got the Droid, I knew Apple had competition on it's hand. Android devices have been had all these features that Apple is just releasing. Specifically speaking, multitasking and folders. But now Apple may feel as though they're loosing the battle or competitors are gaining in, they want to release these features in a hope to keep it's current customers and to hopefully lure new customers.

Att just now are going to allow tethering...Wow. Is it because Verizon allows it on the Palm Pre or is it because Sprint allows it on the Evo? It's like these companies play "Keep up with the Jones" And then Att data plan is capped off at 2GB. Sprint's still has unlimited and I think theirs is capped off at 5GB. How is somebody going to tether off of 2GB. A heavy user will eat that up.

I think there will be a lot of Apple and ATT customers switching over to the Evo. Once they actually have the chance to play with a live Evo, I'm sure they'll be stunned. I let my buddy play with my Evo yesterday at work. I showed him the Sprint TV/Live Tv, Sprint Navigation and Google Navigation (both free) and he was like....**** this phone is a BEAST. And he's right...the Evo is the BEAST of all phones out right now and will still be right after the iphone 4g is released.

Everybody is talking about the Evo's battery life. Well actually you just have to do the same thing to it like people do with the iphone....turn off certain services when you're not using it. Such as GPS, Wifi, Auto-Brightness etc.

I admit when I first got my Evo it lasted somewhere between 6 and 7 hours. Then I read some other forums about turning off certain services. I did that and my Evo lasted between 9 and 10 hours. It still had some charge left in it but i put it on the charger at that time. So it actually could have went a lot longer.
