Lars and the Real Girl
I've never heard of The Good Citizen, nor can I find anything about it online.

Lars and the Real Girl, on the other hand, I do remember.
There have been similar Japanese films, some documentary, some fiction.

The story line and reinterpretations of the Greek myth of Pygmalion are rare, but they do crop up from time to time.
Still, they are rare enough that most would still consider this one to be an original film.

You're digging though.

I never said that there were no such things as original movies, but only attempted to illustrate that the overwhelming majority (probably 90% or more) of movies released by Hollywood are completely stale, unoriginal ideas.

I know, it's a shame.
The book was superb. The Swedish movie very entertaining as well.
But, we obviously need a dumbed-down, over stimulated and action-packed American version.

No, but you're good at this and that movie is disturbing.

The Good Citizen had Gerrard Butler and Jamie Foxx. Butler's wife and daughter are murdered in a break in and Foxx as the attorney gets on of the two criminals the death penalty while the other walks based on a deal he made. Butler sabotages the lethal injection making it incredibly painful and kidnaps and kills the other criminal. He gets put in jail and admits to Foxx about killing the guy and tells him that Foxx is the one that lets killers go free. After that he threatens to kill "everyone" if he's not set free. He goes on a killing spree from behind bars. In the preview is reveals that he's actually some intelligence agency brain that masterminds all these plots and that's how he's doing this.

Looks pretty entertaining.

I don't know why people complain/about this stuff as no one is holding a gun to anyone's head forcing them to see the movies. :)

That being said, I go to the movies to be entertained, and that is something Quentin Tarantino has been able to accomplish a few times with me. I couldn't care less if it was based/ripped off/remade from something else that I was not alive at the time to see in the theatres.

I guess I'm missing your point. I feel that a lot of remakes do the originals justice. You honestly can't feel that everything in life must be original. Shoot, why don't you talk about the clothing industry next for revolving fashions.

Okay, that's Law Abiding Citizen.
And it sounds eerily familiar to Death Sentence (2007) with Kevin Bacon.
Not an exact match, but the "you-killed-my-loved-ones-and-got-off-easy-so-now-I'm-gonna-get-my-revenge-and-kill-you-myself" movies are pretty standard.

Taken
IWTV was a revolutionary book in 1976.
It really helped bring the old world vampire myth into a modern context.
It "humanized" the creature of the vampire.
Dare I say, it was an original book.
The 1994 movie, on the other hand... it was okay. It had been 18 years since the novel's release... it probably would have been better off simply not even making it.

Taken is similar to Man on Fire.
It can also fall under the "you-killed-my-loved-ones-and-got-off-easy-so-now-I'm-gonna-get-my-revenge-and-kill-you-myself" movies... though the loved ones were only kidnapped.

Agreed. For the most part, there is nothing new under the sun. Almost everything can be traced back and found to be derivative of something else, depending on how liberal your criteria are.

For the record, I know that most movies are simply rehashing the films of years past.
This isn't entirely a bad thing.

What I take umbrage to is when someone blatantly rips off another movie (plot, name, etc) and then tries to sell it as an original idea.
Being inspired by and/or paying homage to a film or genre is one thing... outright stealing the storyline and renaming the characters is another.

What really surprises me with many of these is how soon people forget the movies... at least their plots, because before you know it another movie with the same story/different name is a coming attraction... and the public really believes they are getting something fresh, new and different.

I saw the preview for Sorority Row during D9 and seriously thought it was a "I Know What You Did Last Summer" sequel.

I thought the same thing... only I thought that Legion was yet another sequel in The Prophecy series.

I own both Taken and Man on Fire and love Taken. One of the best movies I have seen in a long while.

I know the story has similarities, but Taken to me is like a totally different movie.

High Five.

I like movies. I like movies that other people think are cheesy. That's because zombies rule.

Zombie movies used to freak me out, now I can't wait until 28 months later.

I have only seen the 28 days series, Dawn of the Dead, and Shaun of the Dead.

Any recommendations?

Zombieland is coming out soon.

Diary of the Dead
Fido

Just two off the top of my head. Most of the "of the Dead" series are worth watching.

Dead Alive

A classic from Peter Jackson... back when he was still a creative force to be reckoned with and made horrifically low-budget, yet extremely entertaining zombie/sci-fi flicks.

Now, I don't want to watch bad movies. I enjoy ones with a plot...not just senseless gore.

Are they good in the plot department? I like the idea of a last few people on earth running from what seems like impossible odds.

Zombieland it going to be a great comedy if the rest of the movie holds to the preview.

Diary of the Dead is about a student film maker who makes a video diary of the zombie apocalypse.

Fido is about 50's era (iirc) after a zombie outbreak happened and a corporation finds out they can make zombies docile by attaching a collar so they become servants and manual labor. One boy who's parents get a zombie ends up becoming it's friend.

Now that would be me. Like the classics. Like the remakes.

Movies for me are a matter of pure escapist entertainment.
Couldn't tell you the plot 3 days later and have pretty much forgotten it a week later unless it was truly outstanding.
A year later and I can sit and watch the same movie over again while remembering I've seen this before, yet not have a clue as to what's going to happen next.

Nor do I have any interest in remembering the plots or who made what / when. Ex. One of the most remade series of the last 80 years - Tarzan. I love Tarzan; whether it's Merrill, Crabbe, Weismuller, Disney or even the bad to just cheesy John Derek and Christopher Lambert remakes. Not to say I don't have my favorites amongst them and some are just downright bad, but if someone makes another Tarzan movie, I'll see it also. And this one has the same story/same name.
