After a long week of packing, moving, partially unpacking, and constant job searching, a friend of mine gave me his copy of Army of Two.
This game is a lot of fun. It has a very Gears of War feel to it, mostly in the sense of the duck'n'cover/blind-firing techniques used.
Not to mention it's also built on the Unreal Engine3, so it looks and the movements feel like Gears.
The only thing I have to honestly complain about, is when an enemy is right up in your face, the controls are a bit wonky to aim properly, and using the "melee" attack is your only chance for a kill. That is, if they don't melee you first.
The amount of cooperation of your team mate is a very crucial part in playing and succeeding in the game. I love the fact that this gives you a tactical/strategic edge on the game compared to most run'n'gun shooters. This is very handy when facing some of the more heavily armored enemies where it's key to have your partner (or yourself) lay down suppressive fire, which the other one runs behind for the kill.
Another feature I love is how you can upgrade your weapons. While there are not very many, they are useful and help you throughout the game. Especially when having one player as a support, and other as assault, etc.
And besides... Who cares how hard your M4.. Or G36c, or M249 are putting out, when my RPG is pimped out in gold/chrome. Yes. Spend $10K on any weapon and you can "pimp" it out to have your weapons plated with gold, silver, and other various designs of the like.
Of course, armor is also changeable, albeit, not as much as the weapons. You basically get light, medium, and heavy armor options which you unlock throughout the game. And as a part of the armor, is the imfamous masks they wear. You can buy different masks which have different painting schemes on them. I don't think they make any difference and are just for asthetics.
On top of all the guns and braun, the 2 main characters themselves have quite the personalities, compared to most action games where the lead character is usually some rough-neck who is a hardened veteran (even though they have been in the business for quite some time, game-wise that is). The personalities of the characters really suit each other, as well as make the store of the game more compelling, making you want to find out what happenes next. Like a good book.
I seriously recommend this game to any one who has liked Gears of War (Or Kill.Switch, the original duck'n'cover game IMO), or to any one (like myself) likes a little more than run-and-gunning.
