Okay, yesterday I was talking to several (well a lot actually) people and it was a heated argument about a picture (mature, right?), which eventually turned into an Apple bashing flame-fest.

Really, why do people bother to talk when they're ignorant? Seriously, they were telling me how unreliable Apple is, and how their computers aren't good or useful. I told them I was using one, and their daft comments just made me laugh, because since I own one, using it right now, been using one every single day for hours on end since I got it, I know personally that they are not "unreliable" or "not good computers". they are excellent. It doesn't necessarily bother me, but I'm just amazed at how people actually think that way, and assume they're right.

Sure, people will have problems, and some people will get the bad apple (haha, pun) in the bunch. But that's normal. Apple is not by any means perfect, but at least they're trying to get there, and they're ahead of Microsoft on that goal.

So what do you all think about people who just blow hot air around about this stuff? How much does it bother you?

Macs are machines and are not indestructible. People will still have problems and dislike Macs, but it is wrong to judge them as being rubbish, as OS X is far more stable and secure than Windows, and easier to use.

I know, and thats pretty much what they told me. Apple's rubbish.

Someone who makes comments like that is either a fanboy, close-minded, or an idiot.

To get internet here in Iraq, I often have to bring my macbook into a centralized area (I guess you could call it an internet cafe minus the everything but internet). That means that I have other Marines all around me dropping comments here and there about "oh jeez, that apple". I just shrug it off, who cares?

If any of them actually looked at the evidence, they would see99% of their computer problems are serviced by me anyway :)

To be brutally honest and quite frank... it annoys me more that people get bothered/intrigued by a person/group of people "flaming" Apple in the first place.
It irks me even more when those same people then feel the need to start a reverse "flame-fest" by stating how "dumb" or "uninformed and inexperienced" the Apple-flamers are.

I noticed the subtleties in there. And it's acknowledged.

Apple is most certainly not rubbish. My post was trying to explain that Macs do still have some problems, but not nearly as many as Windows does.

I'm going to have to agree with Devilboy on this one...

They're computers. It doesn't matter.

I know, I was just pointing out that a comment like that is exaggerated, and not the least bit thought out. Of course they're not rubbish. And as I said, they aren't perfect. Any computer, no mater how powerful, will always have a problem with it. It's pretty much inevitable. But some people take that way to seriously, and over-analyze it, thinking that it happens with everything all the time.

No single experience should be used to judge an entire company. I've seen people here swear blind that Seagate or Samsung or whoever make terrible Hard Drives because in 1993, then bought one and after 6 years, it broke.

I honestly don't know how reliable Apple's hardware is compared to other companies. My own personal experience is that a no-name generic laptop I purchased in 2004 lasted 2 and a half years, with no issues whatsoever. No crashes, no cracks, no nothing.

I bought two MacBooks in Sept and Oct 2006 (for myself and my Wife). Both suffered from flickering screen after 2 months, both now have cracked cases and both do the random shutdown thing when the battery goes below 25% and the CPU is under load. All 3 of those issues are pretty well known, but the flickering screens were fixed Apple with no questions asked. I haven't bothered with the other issues.

I'd like to think Apple's products are built to a higher standard than say, Dell. But when you consider, they're made with largely the same components in factories in China, I think it's fairly pretentious to think there is a big difference. For me, the design, reliability of OS X and software (particularly Logic) is more important than wether my HDD has a 0.0013% chance of breaking within 3 years, or a 0.0015% chance.

I'm not necessarily saying that Apple is the best, or they're perfect, I would just prefer a Mac over Windows. I've used Windows machines since I was old enough to click a mouse, and let's put it this way: none of those experiences were fun. The times I remember they did something well was when they were just bought. My Toshiba Satellite hardly lasted one year. The CD drive was the first to go. That created a lot of problems, since in order to even install a keyboard, you had to go search for the driver on the internet, because you couldn't use a CD. and then I had to start using LimeWire and the iTunes Music store to get my music; or put them on a really old Pentium4 computer and put the songs on a flash drive to get them into iTunes. Then, out of nowhere the Wi-Fi card crapped out. I don't know why it just stopped working. It would say it's on, but it would always tell me there were no available wireless networks. There should have been, I was sitting in the same room as the router!

There are others that caused nothing but problems, but I'm not going any further. I'm going to finish with this:

getting a MacBook was the best thing I've done computer wise in a while. Finally, something I could use, and something that would allow me to pamper myself with all my media content, movies, music, GarageBand projects, iMovie, etc. I'm 16 years old, not a business man who only uses a laptop for PowerPoint projects and Excel and typing 20 page reports. I'm indulged in summer, I'm mostly working on GarageBand or listening to music while reading. I would be screwed if I still had that Toshiba. When school starts, I'm getting Office '08. I'm good to go. My MacBook is irreplaceable right now.

Actually - They're opinions, and that is why it shouldn't matter.

cuhnool, next time someone tells you they prefer Windows or peecee's to a Mac, just tell them, or yourself, "Better you than me" - And be done with it.

Oh you have no idea, most, if not all of the people I meet are like that. Very Pigheaded. So I usually play a little game with them by shooting down the most popular myths they throw at me.

Their answer? Uhghh ughh well, you're stupid = or mac still sucks *goes on doing daily things*

However, I have been converting people from Windows to mac, and so far I am about:
25% successful in making them buy it, and having them love it.
50- 75% successful in making people seriously consider (even save up for it)
100% successful in encouraging making the Mac the main computer machine at home.

For the last point, a friend of mine got a macbook for christmas and shot it down right away because it was too complicated and not compatible enough. Then I told him some more about the mac, and within a week he was bringin it in. He was very happy about it.

I guess I'm a Mac Missionary. :p

But really, people need to open up, and ignore the Windows brainwash they endured all these years.

Surprisingly, Macs aren't tooo popular with teenagers, or are neglected.

Me love me Mac!
