So I have an iMac G5 (ALS) 20in 2GHz, and when I bought it, I got the Apple Care extended warranty. It's under that until August this year.

It's having so big troubles...it won't turn on....

My question is, if I send it in, what will they do? Will they fix it or just give me a current model? And if I get a current model, which one? I paid around $2000 when I bought it, so I don't want one that costs $1200 now. Will I get the baseline model? When I bought mine, I think it was top of the line.

If anybody has experience sending in a G5 recently, please let me know what happened.

Thanks.

If your computer is still under warranty then you have nothing to loose. The worst that could happen is that they fix what you have and send it back to you. Since they no longer make G5's they may not have the parts any more. it is possible that you could have it replaced. If they choose to replace it I would wager that what ever they send you will have the same screen size as your G5 with about 2 gigs of ram.

So from where I sit, you can't loose. Give them a call and send it in. What ever you decide, do it now don't wait around.

Since your Apple Care runs out in August, I would be fast and call Apple and get that machine into them.
