Man, FedEx Home Delivery is a bunch of baffoons. I've never seen them botch a delivery so badly.
I ordered a Magic Mouse on the day it was released. It was shipped Wedneday, with a delivery date of Thursday. Thursday came and went, with no delivery. On the tracking page, it said they had attempted a delivery, but the customer wasn't available. I got home and found no door tag or any evidence that anyone had been there. Thinking there had been a mistake and realizing that there would be another delivery attempt on Friday, I let it go - big mistake.
Again on Friday, a supposed delivery attempt, but with no door tag or any evidence of a delivery attempt. This time I called. On the first call at about 4pm, I was told that they would call the local depot and that I would get a call back from the manager in 30 minutes to set up a re-delivery attempt on the same day. Sounded good to me, I waited an hour and fifteen minutes for that call - that was mistake #2. When I called back, I was told that this service was not available for a Ground/Home Delivery shipment and that the depot had closed at 5pm and I should just wait for a Saturday delivery attempt.
Irritated, I gave a bit of protest but was told there was nothing that could be done. In other words, "go pound sand".
So, after giving it a minute or two to process, and realizing that if a 3rd delivery attempt failed - for God knows what reason - the package would be sent back to the shipper, and not wanting to be a slave to my home all day on a Saturday, I called back in. This time, the rep apologized profusely for the wrong information being given to me - she told me that it was unlikely they had even attempted delivery since there was no evidence of a door tag scan. She told me that she would leave a note for the local depot manager to call me first thing in the morning to work with me on figuring out the problem.
This morning, that depot opened at 8am, and I dutifully waited for the call I was supposed to receive. Of course that didn't materialize, so I called at 10:30. This time I spoke with the local depot manager. He asked me for a description of my home to avoid any mistakes and also said that the driver should be at my home between 1-2pm (he claimed to have spoken with her, just prior to my being transferred to him from corporate - interesting, since I waited only about a minute before he answered the phone). Trying to enforce my concern, he feigned not being able to hear me, said I was "breaking up" (even though the call was crystal clear) and told me that if I had to leave for any reason, just to leave a note on my door for the driver, authorizing them to release the package and to sign it.
So, here I sit, praying that this bunch of clowns can actually do their job right.
It's not like I live out in the hills - I'm in a large development, which is easily accessed by at least 4 different major roads. I have never had any issue getting a delivery from UPS, USPS or FedEx (even Ground) in the past.
My guess is that the driver can tell the package is from Apple and thinks it's an iPod or something of value and is hoping to be able to claim the package as having been sent back to Apple, when in actuality she plans to pocket it.
Perhaps I'm being cynical, I just don't understand why this is so difficult.
