Hey so I have a mac pro 1,1 that has lion on it and I took the hdd out and put another in it which is 320gb. So I put win 10 on the dvd and have it installed. So what is the process to install a gpu in it now and there's no boot camp or nothing just win 10 64 bit. Please actual help and dont say it can't be done because I have win 10 on the mac

Welcome to our forums.

Exactly what is it that you want to do with the Mac Pro? Are you wanting to install a different graphics card other than the one already in the machine? You mentioned you have Windows 10 64 bit installed but do you realize that the Mac Pro 1,1 is not a 64 bit machine?

Anyway, stick around and someone who has experience with Mac Pros will try to answer your question.

What is the issue? If you have Windows 10 installed then pick a PC video card that will fit in the PCIe slot. Windows should install a driver for it and if not you can install one from the manufacturer. I am not familiar with what power cables are available in the MP 1,1 but just make sure you will have the cables you need for what ever card you pick. For example when I picked the GTX 1080 card I currently used I made sure it would only need two six pin external power cables as I did not want to mess with adding an auxiliary power supply.

BTW: I have done things on various macs and gotten stuff to work only to read later it should not have. Ignorance is bliss - and sometimes things just work - or they don't. But it never hurts to try!

I know it's not a 64 bit I moved some files around to make the mac think it's a 64 bit so I can run 64 bit programs and stuff. Because it wouldn't boot to win as its 32 bit. But everything works fine except the audio ports no sound. Then the nvidia 7300gt card 256 mb its the original. And the only drivers are win xp. Its just lion you couldn't get any pc cards on it at least I know of so this was a attempt. I just hope when I stick a random pc card in it'll show something on screen.

I'm confused as well but have little (call it almost none) Windows experience, but I was surprised to know that Mac Pro was not a 64-bit Mac, along with some others:

Thanks for that bit of info.

Mac Pro 1 are 64 bit architecture but alas with a 32bit Firmware. This crippled the machine when later operating systems demanded the 64bit Firmware but there are work arounds.

YTou can leave the current Mac card, and add a Windows card, or upgrade the current card to on e that will handle both. Have a look at Mac Rumours.

Thanks Harry, I was just trying to read and understand about it here and the various topics:
http://refit.sourceforge.net/info/apple_efi.html
But it was too confusing for my old brain.

The Mac upgrade site used to have lots of advice on such upgrades as well, and maybe they still do especially for compatibility information that may help:

So does this mean you flashed the firmware so it is now 64 bit?

You can only hack it Lisa using a kext. It stays 32bit but thinks it is a 64bit EFI. One of those male things your gentle lady girls would not understand lol!

It is a pretty complicated, and risky, procedure.

Is that ok to discuss on these forums now?

Okay - I get it Harry. Thanks.

Bob - We are not discussing how to, just clarifying my question.

Good grief!!! What would be so Apple naughty suggesting how to get a Mac to boot or use 32-bit or 64-bit architecture code???

I'm sure even Apple had an article or two for doing so.

But, Avarobinson is not using Mac OS X on her Mac, only Windows.

Sure, why not? The only thing we do not discuss are Hackintoshes.

But you just did, but I guess an Admin can do that. :Smirk:

And I hope serious politics and religion topics/ststements are still included in the topic restrictions as well.

If you can run Windows in bootcamp or with Parrallels why can't you run it without either and just have Windows as the main OS? You have only to satisfy the Windows licensing requirements to be legit.

A Hackintosh is running OS X on a PC and that is certainly a licensing violation as an Apple operating system is only to be run on a mac.

To save any disruptions, I only copied the URL for Lisa's information. It has since been removed.

For mine as Mac Pro 1.1 and 2.1 run OS X up to Lion, can see nothing illegal downloading and installing a kext to make a later version of OS X install. Yes installing OS X on a PC is a different kettle of fish.

There sure is a difference in the custom and hot rod car world of the way things are done and hacked. :Smirk:
